Calzaghe fought bums for the most part of his career but it's not his fault....

well i stand by my point, victories over ottke, beyer and johnson would significantly improve his standing as he would have beaten every feasible opponent.

you can't deny that a dominant victory over johnson would give him credit? tarver, dawson and hopkins still live off them victories.

whether or not beyer/ottke wanted the fight, if the fights had happened, and calz had won, we would have gained a l;ot of respect, as i've said it would be hard to measure it against the credit he did get for lacy and kessler, but other than them names, he cleaned out his division.

I guess that's one way to look at it. But its cool one way or the other. Just want to know what the guys were ranked when Calzaghe fought them. Whether it helps or not doesn't matter much. How do we get those rankings?

Ward is a young work in progress. He is also fighting in an era when the division is more respected and popular than when Calzaghe was young/prime. He is more recognized but he also beat "the man" in the division. He is rising, but that could come to and end at any time.

Smw is now a desirable division due to an influx of talent the last 4 or 5 years. Love him or hate him, Calzaghe should get some credit for that. He brought a spotlight to the division. It should only keep getting better.

I agree Ottke and Beyer would have been good victories, but as you say, then the Lacy fight wouldnt have happend, and even though I rate Ottke as a much better fighter than Lacy, Lacy was an American hype job which gave exposure and a marquee name. So you are right, beating Ottke might have never allowed the Lacy fight to grow.
Beyer would also have been a good win, but what could Calzaghe do? They wouldnt fight him, and if he had of given up his belt he wouldnt have made as much history. Still as said Calzaghe beat Kessler who destroyed Beyer and who is a much bigger name worldwide.

G Johnson. Please get that out of your head :patsch.
Johnson had more losses at SMW than wins.
    Johnson had lost to Ottke.
Johnson also lost to (and I know you hate these examples) Branco, who lost Woodhall who Calzaghe beat and lost to Sheika who Calzaghe beat. Or even Vanderpool who Lacy beat who lost to Calzaghe.
Calzaghe beat Hopkins who beat Johnson
Johnson lost to Sosa who lost to Liles who lost to Mitchell who lost to Calzaghe. Now this last example was a bit of a joke but in truth just look at the form line.
Johnson has lost almost every time he steps up. His only real victories of note was a win over Woods before he won a world title, Tarver who was limited and couldnt beat the worse version of Jones Jnr and who got thrashed by Hopkins, and beating Jones coming off of a KO loss when he hadnt adjusted back to LHW, the Tarver win looked very debateable.
    Thats it.
Johnsons record in world title fights is 3-7-1 or if you include his WBU SMW loss to Branco, it is an even poorer 3-8-1

So let me get this right it was all Warrens that Joe fought those bums

    THEN

    when Joe ditches Frank

he fights,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,Roy Jones who JOE HIMSELF described as finished and washed up in his book ?

Seems to me when Joe left Frank he did nothign different !

really, I'm a fan of his, but I'm not going to say he has a fantastic resume or fought everyone he could, but if calzaghe was so irrelevant and slappy and had no skill and fought no one, then why do they get so animated while discrediting him? I can't even be arsed discussing him any more
