Agreed Tarver definately won both, I'm suprised Tarver isn't more liked considering the hate for Jones It reminds me of Ali's team saying in his biography 'the papers were talking about the fact that Ali lost, rather than Frazier won'
Me too GA, I'm a big Johnson fan on a gritty personal level more than anything else. Not sure it would be good for boxing's future if he did it but what the hell I'd love him to do it
Can't think of a better word to describe him. Amazing work ethic, and one of the few guys to survive a Hopkins beatdown and come back better than he was. I might have to rewatch the first Tarver fight, I remember feeling pretty sure that Glen legitimately edged that one. Then again, I hated Tarver. He's a revelation behind a mic though.
I think that his standing will apreciate over time. He will come to be seen as a sort of light heavyweight Jersey Joe Walcott. Don't know if he will ever make the hall.
The Hall is going to run out of names eventually, and that's when the likes of Glen Johnson will get in. Tough fighters who did the sport proud, even if they weren't quite HOF material.
I think he will get in. Hes a guy who doesnt have great skills but his work ethic, heart and determination have seen him beat the **** out of guys with way better skills. Not sure what that says about boxing these days, but I guess all eras have these kind of fighters.
Much depends on what happens to the people he fought. If Roy Jones is regarded as the big man in 30 years time, then you can expect to see both Tarver and Johnson apreciate. A fighters legacy is not set in stone untill years after they retire.
He deserves to get in the HOF, the only way i dont see him being voted in is if he is against the likes o Hopkins mayweather and pac. Afterall fighters like barry mcguigan are in and worse. He deserves it.
Interesting insights. I wouldn't be surprised to see him get in but I do think he has a strong case for it if he does beat Froch. Even if he doesn't I think he will be voted in eventually.
I remember after he lost to Dawson on points i saw an article on the esb main page about how he was robbed 'again', and there was a vid of him saying the fans have spoken etc etc and they can't keep doing this to Glen Johnson, so i watched the fight and he lost it fair and square, so i didn't take Johnson's crying serious again after that.
Glen Johnson makes a tough fight for most people. He has shown how tough he is by continuing to be in tough fights and hang in there with the younger man, such as his fight with Tavoris Cloud showed, where it was very close all the way through. I thought Johnson lost both Dawson fights by narrow margins, and some of his other "losses" could easily have gone in his favor. I don't think Johnson is an all time great fighter, although he would give many all time great lightheavies a very tough time. Johnson is/was a very good fighter who walked the line of being great.
