Why do you just post one word replies/ or smilies. Is it because you know nothing about boxing?

    Easy,,,,,,,'McG',,,,,,,,,,,,,,Only Kidding

I think if Joe Frazier lost to Muhammad Ali on 3/71,,,,,,,,,,,he takes the smart path and never fights George Foreman.

His blood pressure was erratic, his eye was giving him trouble and had he shoulder problems.
I believe he would have come back late in 71' and picked up an easy win, and loaded up in 72' with a couple of easy Televison Fight wins, then go for the title in 1973.

If Ali did win 'The Fight of the Century', he would have saved us from
    'Smokin Joe's Musical Revue',,,,,,,,,,now that's a good thing,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,'McG'

****, when I saw this thread, I cradled my head saying, " oh God more regurgitated crap." but, then when I saw who the author was, nearly two years ago, I felt rather silly..

I wonder if Muhammad Ali won the title, if would have picked Ron Stander and
    Terry Daniels as challengers??

I don't rank Frazier higher than Tyson even WITH Ali on his win list... Without that win, he doesn't even come close....

No I would say his resume ranks over Tyson's resume. Head to head Tyson might blow frazier out early, but Frazier also might drag Tyson into deep water and drown him with his pressure and constant punching. I don't really know. Pick em fight.

How can his resume not rank over Tyson's though..?

    Frazier
-Ali (better then anything on Tyson's resume)
    -Ellis
    -Bugner
    -Foster
    -Quarry

    Tyson
    -Spinks
    -Holmes
    -Berbick
    -Rudduck
    -Tillis

I see Frazier's top 5 wins as better. Espescially with that spectaclar win in Ali-Frazier I.

I'd say without any shadow of a doubt Michael Spinks was leagues better than Jimmy Ellis (Ellis for me is another who is HUGELY over rated - he was no great shakes at all IMO) and on the flipside I'd rate Oscar Bonavena as a far better win for Frazier than Bugner (again Bugner was the epitome of the journeyman - a few people say "oh people didn't give him the respect he deserved - he went the distance twice with Ali!!? -- everyone went the distance with Ali for christsake!! It's not like Ali was some kind of KO artist!!? - I had an anchient Henry Cooper beating Bugner)

I wouldn't class Holmes as one of Tyson's best wins either - I'd more readily put Tyrell Biggs, Tony Tucker and Mitch Green on the list of Tyson's better wins/opponents

Depends on what Joe accomplished after a the hypothetical FOTC loss. He would still have been good enough for a top 10 rating, albeit the lower reaches, whatever happened. The 1971 victory over Muhammad was a big big win. I can't rate Joe any lower than number 5 in an all time heavy list.

I would not rate Foster among Frazier's 5 best wins. Among the 5 best perfomances perhaps, but Foster was after all not ranked at HW. Mathis should take that place.

Anyhow, Frazier's top 5 wins beats Tyson's top 5 wins, but Tyson has more depth. He also has wins over Tucker, Williams, Steward, Tubbs, Bruno, Golota, Thomas etc. He's higher than Frazier on my list too.

  12. . frazier is higher than tyson in the history hands down. he did beat ali the greatest hw, and he did clean the division (before of the fight against foreman). and foreman would ko tyson as well. tyson did beat bums, average fighters, the worst version of holmes, and spinks( who did almost all his career at lhw), tyson faced just 2 great hws and they were not even in their prime. and tyson was destroyed. and the defeat against douglas was pathetic. you put tyson above frazier basing on your imagination and who is your favourite fighter ,simple.
this list is according his careers, not who would win prime vs prime. and still i think that a prime frazier 70-71 would expose tyson late. frazier is top 6 and very few experts woud put tyson in the top 10. who is higher? it is not even debatable. smokin joe frazier with a hand in the back.(and jimmy ellis was better than spinks for sure)

This is an overstatement. "Leagues better" at HW? When Tyson beat Spinks he had not beat a good opponent in two years (Holmes rematch), and that one was controversial. Old Holmes was the only top HW Spinks ever beat. Ellis had wins over Patterson (controversial), Quarry, Bonavena and Martin - i e just about all the top HWs except Frazier. This was a legit top showdown and Frazier walked right over him. Very impressive.

In 1971,,,,,Smokin Joe was listed as the #3 Greatest Heavyweight of All Time by the Boxing Writers of America.

Does anyone remember how far down Muhammad Ali got pushed,,,,,,?
