I suspect Mundine and Nasser are grooming SBW to be their next dollar-spinner now that Mundine's career is all but over.

Poor SBW - doomed to be a BOXA circus act - like owing Don Corleone a favour...they got their hooks into him early, influenced him enough to make him **** on the hand that fed him by walking out on Canterbury then they swooped in and bought his contract out.

Now he's obliged to them for as long as they can make a dollar off his name.

RE: Solo - I always got the feeling from watching his earlier fights that while he had some boxing ability, he didn't really want to be there.

He seemed reluctant to engage with his opponent until his opponent made him angry enough to start fighting - see when Y2K man pushed him against the ropes in his debut on the Mundine vs Zohs undercard - Solo went ballistic and tackled him over the ropes, breaking the turnbuckle and causing the fight to be held up for some 10-15 minutes while they repaired it. He then fired up and took Y2K man out, after seemingly feeling disrespected by him during the break. Again, vs John Wyborne for the NSW HVY title - Wyborne was picking him to shreds, and it took Solo the better part of 2 rounds to finally wake up and get angry, knocking Wyborne out.

He actually entered negotiations with Don King and had signed a contract with him as far as I believe, or at least, received an advance of around $40K, after which he reneged on any agreement he had made with King and returned to Australia. I think that had something to do with his retirement from boxing and return to League for 5 years.

If you look at the history of events when Solo walked out on the Bulldogs to pursue Gabrielle Richens to the UK, it's obvious Mundine has quite a bit of influence over him - I always felt that Solo was coerced/persuaded to get into boxing to boost Mundine's confidence for his own switch to boxing - it was a big scary step for Mundine and he wanted his mate to be there to help him through it.

Can understand why Richens would have had some influence over him too IBM.

i can't show proof, but i'm sure i heard haumono say once that he stopped boxing for that period because he didn't feel comfortable beating up guys. he just didn't like hurting them, lol.

when u see him interviewed he does seem like he is just too placid to be a boxer.

Sol was like that in footy aswell, it took a bit of something to get him playing at the tempo we knew he could play at.

when he was fired up, u would see the ball carriers either quickly pass the ball or change direction very promtly if they looked up and saw he was coming straight for them.
    it was funny to watch.
he just went through the motion too much instead of going hard too often. pretty effective still though.
and u rarely saw a player use dirty tactics when tackling him.

Aint this $50 PPV card shaping up as a doozy:

    Main Event:
Sonny Bill Williams (8 minutes ring experience) vs Scott Lewis (3-4-0).

    Undercard:
Jamie Pitman (20-2-0) vs Tim Kanofski (so far out of his depth against Pitman it's rediculous - even if he is 11-3-0).

Daniel Baff (11-1-1 and hasn't fought since mid 2009) vs Kashif Mumtaz (6-19-1 and someone who plainly needs to find a new sport).

David somebody (pro debut) vs well nobody at this stage.
