Strange to see someone called "prospect" when he holds a belt. Silver WBC belt is like a regular belt in other versions.

Nah. Silver belt was originally intended to replace interim. But then they went back on that even. Silver belt is basically the equivalent of being mandatory.

I had Canelo in my top 5 prospects of the year though (based on accomplishments more than what I think they'll do in the future; if it was the latter, I'd have Benavidez and Gavin in there):

    1. David Lemieux
    2. Saul Alvarez
    3. James DeGale
    4. Brad Solomon
    5. Tomoki Kameda

Prospect killer of the year maybe. He picked up an ABC title vs. Jacobs.

Alvarez fights Matthew Hatton next week, and given that Rafael chose Canelo the prospect of the year, it became an extremely dangerous and difficult task for the young Mexican. Will Matton's hands deliver Alvarez's fate or will it be someone else???

Canelo is beatable, but it won't be Matton to do it.

So how about Rhodes? Many fancy his chances.

I think Alvarez may be making a mistake going for Rhodes because of his experience, speed and power.

If he wanted to beat a top 10 contender I think he should of gone for Bundrage. I think his win over Spinks is over rated and he's been beaten 4 times already by fringe contenders.

good post. it's been well-documented that spinks received a dui before his fight w/bundrage at 3:00 in the morning in florida. they cancelled a fight then i believe bundrage later stepped in. i agree that canelo should have fought bundrage first because he has shown little power even as a ww.

we'll know more about canelo in the next 24 hours.

nice thread bump ts. the rafael jinx may incline me to put more money on rhodes even though i think canelo still has one more fight in him in 2011 if he survives tonight.

    The time draweth nigh...

That is pretty remarkable that 2 in 3 prospects of the year got upset the following year. That's supposed to be their breakout year.

Also, Dan Rafael is gay and scored Calzaghe/Hopkins for Hopkins, so **** that guy.

  13. Insightful as always, BigBone.

LOL @ the new E-40 avatar, btw.

    I practice lookin' hard...

No talk of Gary Russell Jr. receiving this "honor?" Then again, Canelo did manage to escape the kiss of death this year.
