Curry cut a swathe of destruction through the WW ranks of the early and mid 80's. My question is, can Honeyghan be ranked higher all time, or even as a more accomplished fighter then Curry? I see Curry's name often accompanied by the word "potential". People tend to forget, despite his massive upset of Curry, that Honeyghan himself was undefeated for a decade and certainly had his fair share of impressive wins. So, thoughts?
I can't see it. Honeyghan's wins aren't against the kind of competition Curry's were. After blitzing Curry, he starched smaller, undeserving challengers like Bumphus and Hatcher, and deserved some accolades I suppose for beating Blocker over 12, but that's about it for him.
No .He was in the right place at the right time, beltings by Starling,and Breland put his status in perspective.
Agreed, Even though there is always something to be said for winning a head to head fight with the man you're being compared to, the simple fact of the matter, is that Curry's resume outweighs that of Honeyghan's by a country mile. Donald's run included a unified title and wins over infinately better men.
honeyghan is a fighter that i feel is underrated but to rate him over curry on resume may well be it little hard , the blocker win was a very good win though and for me honeyghan the way he fought against curry may of just always had curry's number in a head to head match-up. after winning the tittle for me honeyghan changed his style and became to aggressive
What Curry wins place him clearly above Honeyghan in the opinion of the posters here who favor him over Lloyd in terms of greatness and accomplishments.
Maurice Blocker was Lloyd's most accomplished challenger. I suppose Curry has to be rated above Honeyghan,albeit marginally,because the Lone Star Cobra fought better opposition,overall. Honeyghan was brilliant that night though.
Honeyghan didn't beat the Curry of the McCrory fight, or any version of Curry prior to that. He beat a lesser version.
Milt was weight drained and choked against Curry.So slow and sluggish compared to previous fights. he redeemed himself somewhat with his spririted effort against McCallum, but i find the Curry win to be a bit overestimated considering what he had in front of him.You can see Curry just come out looking for a big counter hook right away with little of the educated set up work of previous defences. Honeyghan though was only very good for a tiny period and declined rapidly after winning the title.
