Agree on Winky (even though I had Hopkins by a point or two when I rewatched that fight recently).

What would your answer to the thread be as is?

 

5th - Morales or Barrera
7th - Marquez

 

I'd love to say Wright as I love him so much, but I think the Mexicans stand out to me.

Probably just MAB. Wouldn't have any problem with Morales though.

Don't really think there is a clear one. I'd be tempted to give it to either Tito or Wright myself, but more so because of my perception of their ability than anything else.

Things get muddied when you bring in things like resume and longevity into it. For instance, Tito was a better fighter at his peak than Barrera or Morales imo, but did he accomplish as much as they did? Not really....

I think Marquez is a level below Tito too as far as peak ability goes, but JMM is being a stubborn old dog and isn't going quietly into the night, so he is showing good longevity... Mosley has shown decent longevity too, though he's only operating at about 70% right now....

You could make a case for quite a few of these guys.

After beating Manny Pacquiao, Erik Morales had a record of 48-2, with the only 2 losses being close decisions to Barrera (whom Morales had beaten once). He could have retired at age 29 having beaten every man he had fought. Instead, he chose to continue, and he had some pretty bad losses.

 

Jose Luis Castillo beat Mayweather in their first fight, and was robbed by the judges. Come on guys, give him at least one vote!

 

You can handpick the perfect retirement moment for any fighter which would make his career the best version possible. That doesn't mean much. If Roy Jones had retired after Ruiz, many people would say he was the ****ing GOAT!

I think its MAB because he officially beat Morales twice although they are both so close in resume.

 

Did he manage to knock Manny down in sparring and pick up the wads of cash on offer when preparing for the Clottey fight?
