I got Raging Bull on Blu-ray and watched it last night, hadn't seen it in a few years. In the movie they depict his power as somewhat devastating , I know its Hollywood... but it got me thinking, Just how powerful of a puncher was he?

His KO ratio is pretty poor actually, only like 30% of his wins were by stoppage. Yet he was able to drop SRR as well as some other very damn good fighters. What kind of puncher do you consider Lamotta?

He wasn't a puncher, had brittle hands, but he could put the hurt on his opponents with a steady attack.

    They dramatized his punching power.

His true power came from the ability to absorb punches and come back, some boxing experts call this "heart"

    edit: And chin

LaMotta was a devastating body puncher though.

by pretty tough standards these guys are correct and I agree

  6. his hitting power is underrated, but yes he was not one punch ko artist, but he was pressuring during all the fight and more. and he was a very hard pody puncher

More of an accumulative puncher but hit harder than his record suggests.

That's about my view on it, Zivic comment notwithstanding.

If it's a mutant fly the size of a 6" tall man then I like those odds.

He missed a lot, and was lazy in lots of fights. When he did hit, he had average power. The knockdowns were when he got lots of punches in or just because the punches came from unpredictable angles, so the opponent didn't see the punch coming.

in the book raging bull he stated headlines from the news paper stating "why dont they bring jake lamotta the hardest hitting middleweight down to the garden"? so someone thought he had a punch.
