Why did you remove Bernard Hopkins from your P4P list in the 1st place?

I don't get it. Since Hopkins was P4P#1 a few good years back, he only lost two debatable decisions to Taylor and one to Calzaghe, and beat top10 P4P-er / The Ring LHW Champ Tarver, P4P#2 Winky, P4P#5 Pavlik, Ornelas in a tune-up, Jones by wide UD - yet people quickly removed him from the P4P lists with all kinds of questionable reasons such as he 'didn't look impressive' or 'last notable wins were way back'. Yet the same people had Donaire of one notable win on the list, Ward with a single big win, Cotto of recent losses and no elite win for years, Bradley of no elite win and JuanMa Lopez of no elite win at all. How so?

Now that Hopkins beat borderline P4P-er and lineal LHW champ Pascal no matter what the official cards say, you are confused, and should be. What should I do with Hopkins on my P4P list? The old man still has it and his last 6 fights again were against: P4P-er Winky, close loss to P4P-er Calzaghe, P4P-er Pavlik, tune-up, Roy & LHW Champ/top15 P4P-er Pascal, 5 solid wins and one debated loss. That's easily top5.

So where do you have Hopkins now? Why did you remove him from your P4P list in the 1st place, and had others ahead of him based on what?

 

Inactivity

If a fighter has been inactive for more than a year then he gets knocked off and Hopkins was inactive for more than a year from the time he foughts Pavlik to the time he fought Ornelas.

Yet he returned to the ring and then beat Roy and most people removed him around that time. Why then? And why have someone like Donare of years of doing nothing on the list? (I could pick someone else too)

For the same reason why people moved Rafa and Israel around when they were both top 10 P4P after their third fight and unranked for their 4th fight despite neither of them losing since. I cant speak for those who do rank Donaire P4P since I dont but ill assume its because hes young, showed no signs deterioration since his fight with Vic and was able to keep active with atleast 1 fight within a year of the last.

 

I believe it was because of the performance against Jones. Up until that point if I remember correctly most had their p4p list like this:

1. Pacquiao
2. Mayweather
3. Mosley
4. Hopkins

I does seem quite a bit to throw him entirely out of the p4p list. But with a 14 month break, then to fight Ornelas and then the not so good fight against Jones, it's understandable that some people kicked him out.

Personally my p4p is something like this
1. Pac
2. Floyd
3. Martinez
4. Wlad
5. JMM
6. Hopkins

 

Well in my case because of how he looked in his two bouts after the Pavlik fight against pover and totally shot opposition.
He looked clearly past it to me, and I expected the Pascal bout to be much more onesided.

 

Who gives a toss about the mythical pound for pound list? It's a load of subjective nonsense. I would rather go trainspotting than concern myself with that Ring comic fantasy twaddle. :dead:dead

 

The questions to those who did remove him completely 1) how can you kick someone out following a wide UD victory and 2) if he did 'little' in those past 15 months (which included a historical schooling of a top5 P4P-er) how could someone have a Donaire or Cotto in, given their past 15 months resume?

 

Pound for pound lists is a bit of fun no more than that,I doubt many really care or takem too seriously to be honest.

 

I had Hopkins way down the P4P lists about 3 months before he fought Roy. Too inactive, and his record against good opposition had him losing as much a winning. His two best wins were Tarver and Pavlik (Wright being decent but too small) and frankly I didn't rank Tarver all that highly.

Pascal I also didn't rank anywhere near my top 20 let alone my top 10, and Bhop got a draw against him - which was a fair result, although Bhop could also have edged it.

Inactivity, several losses, amazingly **** poor win against RJJ and just perhaps squeaking past a decent fighter in Pascal?

Bhop is riding a huge wave of sentimentality. But you don't get P4P bonus points for being old.

 

While I cant completely disagree with what you are saying, its funny how Calzaghe beat a shot Jones but Hopkins should remain in the P4P list when beating Jones coming off of a KO loss atsch

I'm a massive B-Hop fan, but even I dropped him out of my p4p rankings there, and I believe it was absolutely the right thing to do. Wins over non-ranked Ornelas and shot-to-**** Jones in 2 years very simply rules you out of p4p contention. The p4p rankings are about who is beating the best comp available and looking the best while doing it. B-Hop did neither of these things for a long time there.
