DeGale vs Groves looking good for the next Warren show

Of course you do but I don't think DeGale is this monstrous puncher who takes out good fighters. Its the best fighter either man will have faced.

Smith, Dilks, Hortan, Barr and all the others all of them just punch bags. and DeGale can be hit. He makes silly mistakes, he breaks allot of rules and can still be very amateur.

What happens if Groves catches him to. Groves is 100% the bigger puncher. Nobody can doubt that. We know about Groves heart, we no he can come back.

DeGale has won every round of his pro career. He has stepped up and faced good opposition in his 8 fights but what happens if Groves starts fast and is 3 rounds up, what happens if groves hurts him, what happens if he ref starts to use the rules and doesnt allow slapping and holding, pushing down on the head. How does DeGale react when things don't go his way?

Groves is a better fighter than most are giving him credit for. DeGale is being over hyped. Its a close fight.

 

Some good points Rob, particularly the part about degale having it all his own way so far, so 'what if' this doesnt happen in the groves fight. The fight is very much a 'pick em' one IMO. before Dilks, most thought Groves would knock degale out.

Originally I thought degale would outbox him to a pretty comfortable UD, and I've seen nothing to suggest otherwise. If anything, however, we have learned more about groves lately than Degale. We now no he has a lot of heart, a pretty good chin (was hit with a lot in the Anderson fight and still survived) and he has shown he has a lot of power, more so than Degale.

But Degale has looked fantastic so far, not losing a single minute in any of his fights, and has beaten some good opposition in such a short space of time. Groves, with his low defence, will be too easy to hit. Degale UD by 3-4 rounds.

 

Just **** the Commonwealth off and have it for the British.

i think you are wrong here and Groves would find himself on the end of a comprehensive hiding from Degale. Too good in every department. Groves had problems against the journyman in america and then almost got Ko'd by Anderson. Degale never got out of first gear vs Smith. OK, Smith is extremely limited but you have to admire the ease at which Degale won.

 

Agree with all rob's points here. I wouldn't pick either man as favourite.

 

Lots of people are split on this one and it is a genuine grudge match. Some whose opinions I value highly in the fight game see this as a 50:50 toss up. A trainer I have the utmost respect for favours Degale. I strongly favour Groves. This types of fights are not just about talent but also what you are about you deep in your core. They both have talent there is no doubt about that but I favour Groves because of the intangibles.

 

I am watching the Best Fights of 2010 on Sky at the minute and Nelson and McCrory were talking about Groves v Degale. Both agree that Degale is too much for Groves and that they dont want to see the match up right now and that it needs to be built up further and it could ruin Groves career if it happened now.

This type of punditry is symptomatic of what is wrong with boxing - these competitive fights are what we want to see and what we pay our subs for but these two planks are telling the viewers that it needs built up:nut

Degale and Groves are supposed to be fighting for the British Title next - a little detail that escaped McCrory and Nelson.

 

Groves should concentrate on being more of a boxer instead of a brawler.... Tries to be abit of both, which he isnt..... Hes got a great variety of shots, if he fought of the jab abit more and then keeps improvin... things get interesting, but as of now... Degale WILL knock him out.
Bellew the same, he looked to me like he had a nice jab, and he looks to have fast hands but hes a plodder.... we need to teach our guys the sweet science!!

I am not sure what can be said at this time but I can confirm we have had an offer for me to challenge James DeGale for the British title. Negotiations are well on their way, our fingers are crossed! I can also say Golden Boy Promotions have now also confirmed a date for me to box in the US.
