Why is it a "luxury"? Do you think modern fighters fight to a higher level then 40's fighters?!? In 1942 Charley Burley fought Shorty Hogue, ATG Holman Williams four times, ATG Lloyd Marshall, heavyweight JD Turner (outweighed Burley by 60-80lbs), ATG Ezzard Charles twice, and about 20 other warm bodies. Can you please find a modern fighter with a more difficult year for me?

I'd pick Walcott over every active HW aside from Wlad, where no money would be going down. I think Wlad would beat Schmeling, I see the relative versions of Vitali and Max as a toss up and I think he could beat everyone in the division apart from these guys.

You're hung up on size; why? Quality is surely the issue?

 You think Mercer would beat Walcott?!

Why? It will show that the 1940's fighters were smaller and the modern fighters were bigger. We all know that.

Why don't you answer the question I asked you? What is the purpose of these statistics if, in the end, you have to admit that you can't name fighters who look better on film than the ones I asked you about?

    Umm no.

This isn't about looking at whether something is morally "good" or not. I don't even know where you got that from

It's about looking at the facts

But I'm not just talking about today, I'm talking about the modern era and since the basis for my debate - to - come is Lewis my main focus will be the 90's.

Like waving them about at parties and that??

Or just like Toney, Jones, Josh Barnett, Royce Gracie, Shane Mosley, Ken Shamrock, Vitali Klitschko, Evander Holyfield...idiots all...

Because when it´s illegal, isn´t it wrong to use it as an argument here?

There were more good fightrs in the 40s than the 90s also.

    In regards to this, yes.

For example Tommy Morrison has openly admitted to using steroids during the 90's and he never failed a test for steroids.

I think that the problem that a lot of people have with that argument, is that it is effectivley:

"Modern fighters are better because they would have cheated and got away with it".

It's illegal but still happening and thus must be taken into account.

If we can have a time machine to make these fights, can't we uninvent any illegal substance as well?

But would that even be true?

Which fight who used steroids looks better than Ali?

Which fighter who used steroids looks better than Olivares or Zarate?

Which fighter who used steroids looks better than Burley?

Which fighter who used sterioids looks better than Charles? Holyfield boxes rather like Charles, used steroids, and looks marginally worse to me in their respective best performances.

No, since we don´t really know who used it to what extent.

That is very true due to the poor testing procedures
Fighters are more likely to be using HGH or EPO derivatives like CERA which dont add as much bulk but enhance stamina etc and are virtually undetectable. The picture of the bodybuilder proves nothing
Now that isn't about advances in nutrition which are minimal but the use of performance enhancing drugs
Louis would be the force he was back then in todays era without doubt
Lewis would have a chance but its slim and the second he loses focus Louis knocks him out
McGrain and Bodhi are right in their arguments about the quality of fighters from those era's compared to now

Yeah, but, for example, Toney, Jones and Mosley who were just caught by, like testing.
