who wins and how? MMA WEEKLY.COM Former multi-time and multi-weight class UFC champion Randy Couture was all but set to retire if he didnt get a fight that interested him. This content is protected Randy Couture at UFC 109 If the right fight came along and again, by the right fight, I mean, one of the two guys Ive been interested in fighting for quite a while now are either Shogun or Machida, Couture told MMAWeekly.com in December. If they offered me either one of those fights tomorrow, Id take either one of them, he added. Well, the right fight came along, and he accepted. Following UFC 125 on Saturday night, MMAFighting.com reported that Couture was expected to fight Lyoto Machida, and that Couture confirmed the fight. Independent MMAWeekly.com sources also confirmed the fight, although we were unable to reach Couture at the time of publication. The two will meet on April 30 at UFC 129 in Toronto, the promotions first trip to Canadas largest city. The hope is to have countryman and UFC welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre headline UFC 129 against Jake Shields, although that fight has yet to be confirmed by Ultimate Fighting Championship officials. There was speculation the UFC heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez would also defend his belt against Junior Dos Santos on the card, but that fight wont even be a consideration for UFC 129 now that Velasquez has revealed a rotator cuff injury.
well i couldnt imagine rampage beating machida so im really not sure. i honestly felt machida was ganna be one of the really special ones. he still may. :think
Whats the point in this fight? Is Couture trying to work his way to another shot at the LHW title? Anyway i thought he was retired?
Randy's getting what he wants. He asked for Machida or Shogun. Does this take Machida out of a Rampage rematch for the time being? That said - Randy has been wanting to fight Lyoto for a long time. He must have a plan for beating him. If he can beat the Dragon that would put him in line for a title shot against the winner of the Shogun/Rashad/Rampage triangle. But - Couture has openly stated that he wants to retire. What better way to retire than after a title shot - win or lose? This could be setting up the ending to a legendary career. It's so inpirational to see great fighters that keep challenging themselves by fighting the best fighters around.
Randy is old and really suspect to strikes, let alone fast strikes but Machida is not all there mentally. However that could have been because Rampage is a devastating striker! It all comes down to execution - Machida to win with clean, sharp strikes or Randy to make it dirty, smother him and grind out the win. I hope it is the latter because I wish Randy was my dad
This for me is the most creative bit of match making the UFC has put together in a long time , Machida is very very underestimated in the clinch and Randy hasnt fought a live opponent since Vera !! , this is a great fight , one that i think Couture can win if he avoids a knock out , ive got Couture UD in a rare thriller involving Machida :deal
Couture has stated clearly if the UFC offer him what he see's as " interesting opponents " he'll take them
