Jess Willard is not to be mentioned in the same breath as Bob Fitzimmons.
The only bigger impact Willard had over Fitz is 85 pounds ! Il D you should read Edgar Lee Masters a great poet and boxing buff who sat at ringside for every heavyweight champion from Fitz to Joe Louis.. He saw them ALL, and
ask me then about the immortal Bob Fitzimmons. Remember the world didn't start with Ali... Our ancestors were just as astute as you or me....We even walked the same way...True...Cheers...

    IMPACT,

Yes, the historians can tell us all about his great accomplishments, and fascinating ability,,,,,,,,,,,but on overall impact,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,what??

What did he change,,,,,,,,in boxing that is so lasting.

    What dramatic effect?

You don't think 'The Great White Hope' had a more dramtic effect in boxing and
    world social view.

Solar Plexus Blow,,,,,,,,,,,bigger than 'The Great White Hope'

That 'solar plexus phrase' is a slang for, body punch.

If it was just on 'accomplishment and ability'......Jess Willard gets to the front yard, but not on the porch or in the house.

Every list going past ten without Tommy Ryan in it is bad.

Speaking of 'Slang', the saying "the bigger they are, the harder they fall" was coined for Fitzy.

Hard to get a bigger social impact than that, they write songs, make movies about it, and some people even now dedicate their whole life to the concept! Nice try, but you will need something better than social impact to justify leaving Fitzy out.

By the way, if social impact is so important, shouldnt the hurricane rank higher?

I only rank the Top 5 fighters,,,,,,,,after that you can mix-n-match the next 100
    anyway you want.

Does it really make any difference.

Based on 'impact' on boxing and social importance.
    Anybody have a Top 5.

Please don't tell me Bob 'Ruby' Fitzsimmons is on that list.

    Joe Gans number 21? WTF??

That is the worst possible list ever.

Gans is no less than Top 15, but more probably Top 10.

Pretty much only at no 1, imo, but I suppose anywhere in the top half dozen or so is probably barely justifiable.

No, but a few spots is probably enough.

They astound me more and more each time i read more about them. How about you, when are you going to do some reading on him?

I am not sure if this is toungue in cheek or not. But, there isnt much at all between what Ryan did, and what Robinson did, to be honest. I cant really see how the two can possible be placed too far apart, unless of course, Ryan is the one being rated higher based on a better consistency.

The most interesting item that I have found on Ruby Fiztsimmons, is that
Jim Corbett beat the hell out of him for 13 Rounds, before getting caught by a desperation body shot.
