I hate this fight. Pac is at the end of his career and we want to see him in some real match ups. Draining an old shot legend in Shane down to 143 is disgraceful. All this catchweight bollocks is bull****, If he wants to fight welterweights then he should fight then at 147
thats from 2009 if you didnt notice (after pac hatton when pac is new to 140+) on the bolded part, its not just pac who wanted to fight, also, those welterweights wanted to fight pac too (coz if not, they could have just said "FCK OFF").... catchweights are done to let boxers fight who came from different divisions... read your history on boxing and its not new to the boxing ffs
Oh dear. Oscar was actually coming from 150 not 154. If he trained too hard for the fight the blame is his own imo. Not pac, oscar wanted to continue at 147 with fights vs hatton and floyd and margo. Pac looked brilliant at 147 vs oscar, very quick, very good stamina he fought as good a fight as he could have done. If he could only fight at 143 why did he fight cotto at 145? The truth is team pac didn't want shane then, roach admitted it himself. Pac has done enough without you having to justify failed negotiations. Stop being a moron. Read what you put for crying out loud. He fought oscar at full 147 so the weight wasn't the problem, it was the opponent.
LOL you need some reading too roach initially offered 143 for cotto but cotto didnt budge.. and asked for 145 or no fight.. so roach had no choice but to accept... on mosley, 143 is obviously the starting offer... mosley could have counter-offered for a higher weight. its like haggling, u offer a very low price till you both reach an aggreement half way
All it took for Pac v Mosley to get made was for Mosley to leave golden boy. There's an interview on youtube where Roach says that they are very interested in a Mosley fight, and that was in 2009. He said they would fight him at a catchweight because Pac was a JrWW and Mosley was a WW. Fighting Mosley at 147 would be giving him too much advantage. When Roach said Mosley was too good, he meant Mosley was too good to let him have a big advantage before the fight. Not too good to fight on even terms. His words were taken out of context to discredit Pac
you think that was a legit test at 147? dela hoya barely hit him. and a drained dela hoya was not a good gauge if pac could take the punch of solid welterweight.
he already fought at 147, if he wants to fight a beltholder in the 147 division, he should have done it at 147. so as not to disadvantage the champion. he didn't want shane, as some other posters have said on here, a WW version of shane was too good for pacman back then. 2 years and no wins later, he is not too good any more.
exactly the point we're making. shane was too good then to fight him at his weight. and now he isn't. simples.
from what i remember, roach was asking for a catchweigth at around 143. but then shane decided he could go as low as 140 and that he wanted to challenge pac at 140 for the belt
which obviously means he wanted the cash... why would he risk his (Mosley) legacy @ 140 when he could have accepted 143 and PWN pac's ass?
maybe because then people like you would say "but but but pac's a light welterweight, mosley was just too big" shane wanted it, pac didn't. simples.
no, he was too good then to give him a big advantage. Now that Pac has grown accustomed to the higher weight, the advantage Mosley gains from fighting a small guy like Pacquiao at 147 is no longer so significant. That's the whole point.
fighting someone in the wieght class you are campaigning at isn't giving them a huge advantage IMO. he soundly picked apart Oscar at 147, he came back to fight cotto at 145 and clottey at 147. But Mosley got offered 143. Shane said he would fight pac at 140, he didn't want the man. A fight now is no longer significant at all IMO. much tougher fights for him out there. It is a crying shame considering the gifts he has, that his career is ending this way. I guess I'll just have to cross my fingers and hope our p4p champ fights a decent opponent after this fight. One that is an acual challenge. This kinda reminds me of the last p4p champ we had.....
