Performances where fighters disappointed you

Recently Pascal against Hops. He had no answers at all.

Just because its been mentioned and few times and given the style mesh, I can't believe people expected more out of Mallinaggi against Hatton. I don't think I've been more sure of the outcome of a top fight in a long time. The guy just didn't have the tools to do the job, simple as that.

 

Think how poor Ricky looked against Lazcano and Paulie's talk was a factor. Didn't expect him to be outboxed by Hatton at all. Bullied yes not outboxed the way he was.

 

gutted in mike brodies performance against harrison at MEN,i remember at one point him hurting scott, then he just got hammered with body shots.After his two previous fights, both against Injin chi, i expected another war.Found out later mike didnt train as he would have liked due to marital probs, bloody women.Plus the two wars with chi must have took loads out of him.
Met diego corrales that night tho, it was cpl weeks after the Castillo war.Asked him how the **** up he got up in the tenth, he just beat his chest and said, it was my time.......RIP.

this 1 is a personal 1 for me as i really thought the maidana fight was 1 fight to soon for and he'd come again but after the 3rd round with peterson he just kinda lost his killer instinct. this was a real l;et down for me

 

As soon as the range was short enough for Hatton he could outbox him, out fight him or whatever, it doesn't really matter. Hatton had the fast feet to close the range (Paulies has fast hands but his footwork is average), after that he could do whatever he wanted.

Paulies type of fighter has 2 ways to win against a decent pressure fighter, movement or discouraging his man by hitting him with decent shots on the way in. He didn't have the tools to do either.

 

There's talk that his management were not to worried to lose him when he left to go GBP. There's always been ??? about his will to win and heart.

His attitude towards it all is ridiculous really. ''Oh well i'm gonna have a cheeseburger'' ain't sorta stuff i wanna hear when you ****ed it all up.

Peterson was void of any confidence and from round 5 onwards he was hitting Ortiz and gaining more and more belief.

Nice kid....Looks the part but doesn't have it in him. Sad to say.

 

I was confident Hatton would win, taking into account his **** poor performance against N'Dou in Manchester.

But still, all that chat to basically spend all night running and getting pounded? :-(

A 2004 Hatton would have retired Paulie for good that night - really beat the **** out of him.

 

Fernando Vargas against De La Hoya. I was always a fan of Oscar but really wanted Ferocious Fernando to win that fight, ahh but alas it wasn't to be and it was disapointing especially with all that crap he talked. All that talent and all those steroids and Fernando still couldn't win the big fights. I always think maybe If he would have shaved his "front mullett" off like 5 years beforehand, he may have been somebody, LOL!

 

Whats Paulie supposed to do though, BB, admit he can't win? He gets, and sells, big fights because he's got a fast mouth and is good for a quote...

Alex arthur against gomez wasn't really into boxing just watched it if it was on and was a fan of Arthur for some reason remember being gutted when he was gettin beat up.

 

I think that's a bit harsh..... it was one of only two times DLH really stood up to be counted in the 2nd half of a big fight without gassing horribly.

Not sure Vargas really had the tools to beat DLH, in spite of his size advantage and PEDs.

 

In fairness I'm not sure what else he could do..... it just amazed me how so many supposedly knowledgable people had him winning it.

A supposed slickster that was as hittable as Hatton wouldn't have a chance.

It's just that when you give it the big licks and do jack **** you are inviting criticism on yourself.

I hear ya BB!! But I never blame fighters for giving the press what they want before a fight, thats the game. Anyone who falls for all that stuff has been watching too much pro wrestling.

IMHO people got too caught up in Paulie having fast hands and kidded themselves he also had the fast footwork to go with them. Thats where the fight was won, the fight was fought at Hattons distance throughout, I was quite impressed/ surprised that Paulie lasted until he did (and was unlucky to get stopped in the end).

 

Woods never seemed to get out of neutral in that fight. I guess Tarver was just slightly less shot than Clinton?
