This young and flashy boxer-puncher from the Golden Boy Promotions stable has been bouncing between super featherweight and lightweight (which is where he'll likely wind up campaigning, given his height). He has some real upside. Of course, there is work to do if he's going to make it to the world class level...let alone thrive at it.

    +
His power punches - particularly when thrown in combination and/or as counters - are quick and explosive.

At 21 he already seems to bear the full mantle of his man strength...and if he hasn't yet then he will be downright scary. You can tell just by looking at him how hard he works in the gym...although there is probably room for improvement in cardio & long-term conditioning.

He seems to be getting the hang of the Philly shell defense, using plenty of elbow and shoulder blocks a'la Mayweather.

    -
I don't care for his jab. It's usually delivered as either an upward backhand or in a downward tomahawk motion...a wrist-flick in either case, rather than a true punch with his lower body weight behind it...and with the bottom or back of his fist connecting rather than the knuckles.

He is not and will probably never be a calm fighter. A good trainer should be able to reign some of that in and get him to tighten up his work - particularly when drawn into wild exchanges.

His feet are awfully wide, and he has bad habits with them including too much tiptoeing and shuffling. Again, a good trainer should be able to identify these habits and really hammer home the importance of taking good solid steps and being aware of his base at all times.

It will be interesting to see how he develops, especially as the old guard at lightweight begin to take their final bows and newcomers start jockeying for hegemony. This deep field will include names like Linares, Vazquez, Murray, DeMarco, Zappavigna, Rios, Magdaleno, Escobedo etc. Can Broner work his way into the rarified air of that upper echelon or will he choke on his extant limitations?

So far we have only seen enough to say that he's looked decent (but imperfect) against the class he's faced.

Now, the well-traveled Ilido Julio is far from popping-fresh and has been getting stopped by all his decent opponents longer than Broner's had pubes...but nobody else has ever blown him out in just over a minute. That is probably his most impressive win to date.

Next Saturday he will have a further chance to prove himself in what should be his biggest challenge: fellow prospect John "Renegade" Revish, who is 10-1 (8 ko) and has fought primarily at welterweight...and as high as middleweight!

    Stay tuned...

Here was an early impression from Dan Rafael, over two years ago following Broner's 4th professional victory over Terry Jet:

"With an amateur career of about 300 fights behind him, Cincinnati prospect Broner has a very appealing pro style because he's so aggressive. Through his first three fights, he encountered little resistance as he scored three first-round knockouts. It looked like he might do it again when he dropped Jett twice in the opening round, but Jett survived and took Broner into the sixth before Broner's nonstop attack finally forced the referee to stop it 33 seconds into the round. If you like aggressive fighters, keep an eye on Broner."

It was impressive the way he handled Kickett who was at the time a hot prospect himself. that was definetly the best win of his career and its when i first heard about him. Very talented fighter and one that i could see going far.

    :bump

Well, he ultimately battered Revish out of the ring in three minutes flat...:yep

This time he should have an actual challenge on his hands in the form of Daniel Ponce De Leon, on HBO in exactly 20 hours. :deal

I was bored, tired of reading the same six guys arguing and whatever nonsense MarkAnt is currently talking about (bicep size in boxing) so I wound up here.
