I don't see what was so special about Mayweather vs Gatti?

margarito looks like b-hop compared to gatti.

Gatti is unbelievably overrated, upset and competitive with C class fighters on the reg. He wasn't even a good or smart slugger. Just a guy with a lot of heart, power, and minimal skill.

Didn't you make the technical point that pac fought a fighter on a 5 winning streak more recently than mayweather? I simply corrected you on that.:good

Too many posters here dont have a clue. This was Gatti who was coming off a clinic vs Terron Milett. The Gatti who was changed into a box puncher again and revitalized by Buddy McGuirt. The Gatti who was given a second career that no one expected. The Gatti that destroyed Dorin with a devastating body shot. The Gatti that gave us one of the best Trilogys in years.
Gatti was seen as a LEGIT thread to Floyd back then. Certainly an outsider but not the cakewalk that it turned into and many noted boxing scribes had money on Gatti by KO. Floyd was essentially too good for his own good. That was by far one of the best displays of box punching iv ever seen. Gatti may as well have had no hands. He was throughly outclassed.

Yes i am comparing both these defenceless fighters who relied only on their offence.

Actually I can't compare the two. As one of the competitors in this debate may have been wearing iron gloves throughout their career.

Oh, that's what you did there...or tried to at least. Well, technically...you are wrong. Pac-Diaz was in the summer of 08, Mayweather-Hatton was in December of 2007.

All good, though. I know how all of these dates and years run together after so long and it can be confusing. :bbb

Technically you used the right cut off date to make that statement. You see how important cut off dates can be?

    Seriously?

Gatti held titles in numerous weight classes, that alone shows his skill level was above MINIMAL.

Trust me, I know Gatti was no master boxer, and his ridiculous will, mixed with dangerous power helped outweigh his lack of defense. But to say he was a minimaly skilled boxer, is un-called for.

What was your thought process behind that statement?

It was impressive because he completely shut out Gatti and made him look like he had never been in the ring before. I mean did Gatti even hit PBF with a clean shot in the fight? Not to mention back then on ESB people here actually gave Gatti a shot of wining. I remember the poll before the fight was like 60-40 PBF. I was at a fight party for that fight and people there thought Gatti was going to KO PBF. I vividly remember them being in awe of PBF, it was an impressive performance to say the least.

just a little trollin, don't respond to stuff like that

I do think he could have been much improved from what he was, and he lost to people he had no business losing to tbqh. A great physical and spiritual talent, but lacked the skill to be truly great imo.
