The only fight I saw of his other than youtube clips of his knockouts and some sparring sessions was against Antonio DeMarco in defense of his WBC lightweight title. I was pretty impressed with Valero's heart, and his toughness. He had a nasty gash the majority of the fight that he fought through. Skill wise, he seemed a bit raw but deceptively fast, athletic and powerful. I always wondered if he had the potential to be a P4P type fighter, or if he was a guy like Miranda who tore through weak opposition in South America and would eventually get exposed when he stepped up to international competition. Thoughts?
I wasn't fully sold on him, but I enjoyed his bout with DeMarco...especially because he surprised me with his boxing ability. I don't think he would have become an elite level fighter, but he would have had a puncher's chance against pretty much anyone.
Way overrated. He looked good in sparring then during a fight he would just swing for the fences. I think any of the top guys in the weight classes he ventured would have beat him.
he never had a license to fight in the us, if he did he would have been as popular as any other active boxer easily, talent wise he was good, freddie roach a while back said he wanted him for manny when manny was at lightweight still
that was before oscar cherry picked pac, if he didnt do that everything would be different. Pac-valero would have happened in 2008. Maybe he would still be alive. The guy was a nutjob so it was a matter of time for him to selfdestruct i guess
nut job - i dont think so, he was just an aggressive male, his entire case was based on lies, ever heard of gatti and the rest, valero was good but he hadnt proved himself against any big names, sergio martinez would have been nothing if he didnt prove himself, the same was with edwin valero, he simply didnt have the opps to prove himself
allegedly, like i said, ever heard of the gatti conspiracy and the like, do your research and dont be ignorant
He surprised me with his versatility against DeMarco, who is pretty good and underrated off the back of that fight. How good could he have been? Who's to say, going off the DeMarco fight he'd definitely be at least top 5 at lightweight but I suppose it'll go down as one of boxing's great mystery's of the last few years as to just how good he was.
A basic slugger who was good at knocking out south american cab drivers , anyone with a bit of movement and a jab made him look pretty average.
