While I'm not going to try and dispute that Tyson could be taken to the ground and beaten by somebody skilled in that area, to suggest he'd have no chance against street-fighting crims is - in the word's of Tyson himself - "ludicrous". Unless jails are actually full of Brazillan Jiu Jitsu grandmasters and decorated catch-wrestling veterens, most of the guys in jail are simply tough guys with novice fighting skills. The original Ultimate Fighting Championships taught us that in the 90s. Kimbo Slice taught us that in the 00s.
They would have to be pretty huge to offset the gulf in class. We're not talking about some has been, we're talking about a guy who was in his late 20s and HW Champion of the World 2 years prior.
You are right for the most part, but taking someone down who has no takedown defense skill is not that dififcult, you dont need to be a black belt in Jiu jitsu to be able to do that, and you dont need to be a rocket scientist to figure that a boxer has his weakness on the ground.
The increased popularity of mma has led people to believe that fighters such as Tyson could easily be beaten in a street fight by being taken down and pounded on. What they fail to realise is that Tyson was a legitimate psycho. If you tried to apply a submission move on him he'd just bite a chunk out of your arm or leg.
:good I agree with this :yep ALthough i did hear of him in a fight with someone and somethng about a couple blows being thrown but it was split up or something to that affect... But that dude was either really stupid or a crazy mean mof trying to prove a point.... Im sure it was a ***** move and the dude probably started with Tyson in front of 20 guards or in front of the gun towers were warning shots are given.
Remember that Tyson was in prison in the early 90s so the fighting world would not have been as familiar with BJJ or ground-and-pound as we are today so it's highly doubtful that these guys(probably really huge guys) would have done anything but brawl with Tyson...given the venue. With that said, I can also see Tyson possibly taking part in some fixed fights where he would be subtlely pursuaded to lose.
Mike never tells us full or near enough tales from his prison days.. the closest thing he came out with was in his documentry- TYSON. I beleive he had a few fights and he whooped some azz..he was supposed to be released 8 months earlier but had another little sentence to do after fighting and assaulting some inmates.
Yeah, but I mean once it hits the ground, most of the opponents would not be that better off in terms of grappling knowledge. Most would be more concerned trying to beat his head in with their fists, elbows or head - not thinking positioning, leveraging and setting up an arm triangle choke.
And what makes you so sure his opponent wouldn't have done likewise? Eye gouging, low blows, scratching, small joint-manipulation - they all can do it too, and frankly the street fighter would probably have more experience at it as well.
Exactly.. Who would "want a piece of Tyson"? Especially a young vicious bare fisted Tyson?? Some street fighter fat ****in junkie??
