This doesnt answer your question really but here's a short video of Miguel Cotto hitting the heavy bag, maybe that can help you get an idea. [yt]parc7qQCnvA[/yt] Edit: I counted about 47 punches in that 1 minute. Cheers! :good
This is completely dependent on your work rate and style. Cotto has always seemed to me a bit of a lazy trainer but an unusually high performer in the ring (I got the same feeling watching Morales train, too). If you are working it as a cardio exercise instead of running and stuff and for shoulder endurance, I would certainly be punching a lot more than Cotto, I feel like he is working on placement and timing more than getting a good workout when he hits the heavy bag. I counted about 38 in about a 20 second stretch from one of my old videos, but I am a little bit lighter than a welterweight. I'm thinking at least 120-180 per round if you want to get any sense of muscular fatigue to accustom your shoulders to it, but like I said everybody is different. And you will be throwing like twice as many shots against a bag than you can against an opponent, especially a good one.
I would agree with you that he looks kinda lazyabd gies skiw, both on the bags and pads. But he may just be focusing on technique during his boxing training cause he gets his cardio from his other actual cardio training. It obviously works for him cause he's always in good shape. Here's two videos of Pac. One that he's going a bit slower and working some techniques, and one that's just pure punching (not that there's no techniques involved). A lot more than you throw in a round...I counted 140/rd over 3 rounds last time I taped myself...a week later I averaged about 40 per round in a fight lol. I'd say if you're a hard worker shoot for 200...can't hurt ya any.
