Does anyone know if Carlos Monzon sparred with Oscar Bonavena? I think I found a film clip of them sparring but I want confirmation.

Look what Frazier did to Foster who was essentially a bigger, harder hitting Monzon. Nuff said.

I think Frazier was out of the country (calling a Muhammad Ali fight) while Monzon was in NYC.

Oh yeah...right after knocking out Frazier, he got Bonavena in the ring and knocked him through the ropes. Hey, I'm gonna play along with these ridiculous Monzon threads..if you can't beat 'em, join 'em.

It was Vito Antuofermo who said Monzon knocked Frazier out. I remember reading a whole load of posts about it before, but can't remember anyone proving it didn't happen, or proving it was a made up story.
Of course, it has to be treated with utmost scepticism, but people should also realise that strange things can happen in sparring sessions under certain circumstances, things that you just know couldn't happen in a real professional fight.
There's no real evidence it happened, but it was never debunked here as far as I know, unless extreme ridicule passes for debunking.

I've heard nothing about Bonavena and Monzon sparring but as they were two leading Argentine fighters I wouldn't be at all surprised.

Vito commented on a video that Monzon had knocked Frazier down in sparring. When asked about it just recently, Vito said that he had not seen it and that he was told by somebody that this happened. Hopefully one day, someone might ask Joe if he sparred Monzon and how it went. NOt that it means anything anyway, but it is very interesting.

    Klompton,
I am surprised you describe Foster as a bigger stronger version of Monzon. To me (and i admit I dont rate Foster anywhere near as high as most), Monzon is technically better than Foster in every respect, with the exception of KO punching power. In fact, while obviously Monzon's chin is obviously unproven at the Light heavyweight limit, I would feel every confidence in predicting Monzon to beat Foster if his chin holds up.
