Who were the fighters who maybe didn't do enough to warrant a shot at the title and then proved little after winning it? Or maybe won it in a weak division but were unable to keep a hold of it? I'm racking my brains to think of some. I hate to put down a fellow Scot but maybe Barry Morrison is a decent shout. He hadn't beaten really anyone of note (Dean Hickman and Gary Reid the best on his record) before he got the shot and had also lost to an unknown guy before he beat Lenny Daws to win it, then he got beaten in his first defence. What are your picks?
good shout with barry, i hate to put a scot down myself... im sure theres hundreds that got it that didnt deserve it. too many vacancies etc...
I feel bad in a way to be discussing this sort of thing seeing as even the 'weaker' fighters to pick up a Lonsdale belt still go through so much hardship to do it, but Gary Woolcombe. He was very lucky to get a fight with Marcus Portman for the vacant title, and fair play to him he took advantage of it but was badly shown up against Rhodes in his first defence. He was an English title level operator that got a bit lucky.
Aye this is a bit disrespectful. Even if a fighter ain't the best, it's not their fault if they get offered a title shot, and then win it as well. A more relevant thread would be to look for the fighter who put the least effort in when given the opportunity. If the BBBC makes a matchup, it very harsh to say a fighter is no good, most of the time they're doing their best and the Lonsdale belt may well be their career-best achievement
is a bit shitty, but could make an interesting thread nonetheless. none of these guys are bad fighters, they just weren't the best in britain when they held the belt.
Are we talking about outright or simply holding it? Cos I'm sure mcintyre held it andbrook spanked him in double quick time
Didn't you say he was the 2nd greatest British welter of all time? You've lost all credibility there.
either. Mcintyre won it from Kevin Anderson who was a good champion then Brooks destroyed Mcintyre inside a round. Not a bad shout.
