Has to be Douglas - Tyson. Tyson wasn't 100% sure but not as bad as fanboys lead us to believe, it's just that Buster was better than anyone expected.
Good picks.:good Lamotta over Robinson wasn't too shabby either. Schmelling over Louis can't be overlooked either.
Greb died over a decade before Robinson had his first fight. I was reading about his death in an article not long ago. He checked in to a hospital for some routine operation and the doctors fĂșcked up and killed him. Health care has come a long way since.
surely both rank amongst the biggest upsets....both brit fighters were supposed sacrificial lambs, both pulled out huge performances.....il stand by those bro....another, as yet unmentioned i think, would be turpin v robinson
I understand what your saying mate, both massive wins in their own right. But on the scale of Duran V Leonard Frazier V Ali, there miles apart.
Duran vs SRL. Lightweight Duran beats a prime Ray. Nothing else comes close. Tyson was already on the slide.
agreed mate, but the williams victory was a HUGE upset for the general public if not the fistic cognoscenti...benn victory over mclelland was more for the boxing fan as geralds reputation as a heavy handed monster was probably not widely percieved beyond fight fans incidentally, WAS duran beating leanord such an upset..what were the odds...duran was a tried and tested battle hardened great in 1980, he had proved himself time and again..sure he was coming upin wieghjt and leanord had beaten benitez by then, but he wasnt the miracle man we came to know fro tnhe hearns/hagler victories.....i genuinely am interested to know what the general feeling was around the time of the fight..leanord was olympic golden boy, duran the viscious, spitting, tested buzsaw.....
The question is the greatest victory of all time, not the greatest upset, i think thats where you might be going. I feel a Duran win over Leonard, The golden boy of boxing, Olympic gold medalist, undefeated and soon to go on to have one of the greatest win resumes in the history of boxing, Add onto that Duran coming up in weight to defeat him and Leonard then going on to defeat Hearns, Hagler. The Williams win over Tyson was a big upset, and probably alot more appriciated in Britain. But being honest the man who Williams beat in the ring that night was not the real Mike Tyson, he was 10 years away from the monster he once was. Benn-Mccellan was a great win without a doubt and also a big upset but this win is comparable with other such as Tarver V Jones 2, Forrest V Mosley
Ah coolio. I remember reading once that robinson ducked someone but I can't remember who it was for the life of me.
Probably Charley Burley. He's stated for saying something like "I'm too pretty to face Burley". A matchup with a former Lightweight beating a top WW(Not SRL-Duran 1 lol) comes to mind, DLH-Mosley 1. You would have to be great in order to beat a prime DLH that night and Mosley was/is just that. Hell make Mosley an ATG for that performance lol.
