I thought that connection would've been obvious without me having to spell it out...

Anyway, i was referring more to the slight stylistic similarities and rarely being in "boring" fights. TBH though Amir should be happy to achieve half of what Terrible Terry did because he's nowhere near as good.

 

hes nowhere near as skilled as norris but he could go on to achieve as much if not more, if he beats bradley/JMM he wont be that far off, norris's record wasnt all that he fought a trilogy with a journeyman because everytime he'd hit behind the head, and many of the fighters he faced were past there prime or moving up in weight curry, taylor and Leonnard came out of retirement and had to lose weight. Norris never had that signature win its a shame because i think if he didnt peak too soon he could have beaten a young vargas.

 

You're right he could achieve as much relative to his talent level and if he's matched and managed correctly, but Norris was a beast, a real killer.

People forget that's what got him in trouble when sighting his poor punch resistance. Yes, he didn't have the best whiskers but that's also because he took a lot of risks. Watch his second fight with Simon Brown to see the difference when he fought a clever fight. Norris is a HOFer and in the top 2 or 3 154 pounders of all time.

Norris was also mentally very strong. He got stopped in his first title fight against Julian Jackson and then went in there with another big puncher and was never gun-shy and blasted him out. Norris was really mean, watch how he punished Paul Vaden...Khan has nowhere near the type of killer instinct and finishing ability Terry had. Norris was sharp, compact and physically strong. It was also very difficult to outbox him.

His best wins are against smaller guys and i never liked the fact he was always calling out guys like Chavez, Whitaker and bullying smaller fighters like Blocker, Curry, Taylor but Norris was really just a big welterweight, that's why we was wary of facing those middleweights.

I personally don't think Khan will ever be as good as Norris, although he'll have a similar type of career.

Khan has just fought Maidana, and now he's following up with Peterson, who is a solid top 10 guy in the division.

All the money was "down South" of 154 at the time as well Slip. Norris was great to watch.

Him a Curry exchanging lighting punches was really something to see.

 

Exactly. A bunch of drama queens on here - Peterson is a very good fight for Khan - who only just came through a punishing fight with Maidana - who a lot of people thought he wouldnt fight.....

, i think norris on his night was a beast and eclipses khan, but coming back to norris he was put on his ass and looked dazed as hell against an aussie fighters who's name not even worth mentioning, and that big puncher who he went in against after jackson was moving down a weight and coming out off a war with hagler which shortened the duration of his career, a pre-hagler mugabi would have taken out any version of norris at 154, and i dont know why he wasnt calling out Julio Cesar Vasquez that guy would have given him hell as well,

 

Norris would always have been trouble for Mugabi. Two very decent punchers....the guy with the faster hands and the straighter punches will always have a great chance over the guy with the bigger one punch power.

 

add to the equation a guy with a granite chin with 1 punch KO power vs a not so good chin fast handed combination puncher who leaves himself open. norris would have presented opportunities for mugabi

 

Maybe but I'd still take Norris. Straighter punches, faster hands...its his to lose IMHO,

Like i said Norris was wary of middleweights after what happened against Jackson, i think his camp purposely kept him away from moving to 160lbs. You should be having a go at him for not rematching Julian Jackson as they were in the same stable rather then not calling out other middleweights. I have no problem with fighters who don't move up if they make their best fighting weight comfortably and Norris could've even boiled down to 147.

Mugabi was still a legit big puncher, it was impressive the way Norris after he'd already been KO'd badly took it to him and blasted him out. Remember he was still a very young fighter. Any version of Mugabi has a punchers chance but Norris at light middle is always too fast and sharp.

Oh and btw, that Aussie fighter who's name is "not even worth mentioning" as you put it, was Troy Waters and he was certainly no bum. He was a very tough kid and a good contender. He also took a prime Simon Brown to the wire. That was the brillient thing about Terry though, he had a kill or be killed type of mentality even though he had the skills to put on clinics. That Waters fight he had no respect and was just walking in. What did he do after being dropped? he goes straight after him and is pounding him on the ropes. That was Terry Norris.

 

Btw i think Terry Norris would beat Floyd Mayweather, yep i said it. lol
