The future goes through David Lemieux

Calzaghe wanted no part of Bute, that's a fact. He told it himself. Not because he was afraid (that's what your hate made you presume I was saying), but because he had only a few bouts left and he wanted them to be as big as it could be. Kessler was a big unification, Hopkins and Jones were big and paying names.

Bute was nothing more than a new green champion. Nothing to gain for Calzaghe. Not a good pay day, not a big name to put on his resume. Bute came too late, like Lemieux comes too late to think about Martinez.

So, yes, I'm serious. What about you?

Martinez is in his prime. Lemieux has only just started moving towards his prime.

It would an extermination of epic proportions.

 

Both ways are true. Lemieux brings nothing to Martinz, Martinez is too much for Lemieux.

If he doesn't, it's not uber clear to me. There is no CLEAR indication that Martinez will be vacating the belt sometime this year, and Yvon Michel keeps talking about the WBC belt when asked about David's future. He might want a Lemieux-Zbik/Chavez Jr fight for the regular belt, but his most recent talks indicate David 'is on the path to get a shot at Martinez'.

I'm not saying they should want anything to do with Maravilla, either.

In soon to be four years of being a "champion". Calzaghe never uttered his name, and you take it as he wants no part of him? Bernard Hopkins was a in the top tier of the P4P list by the time Joe fought him, and Kessler was widely regarded as the best SMW and the possible successor of Joe's. Hell, Dawson was further up in line than Lucian Hometown Bute by the time Joe fought RJJ.

So that squares up to about 1½ fight per year for Lucian Bute. He's even poorer than Sven Ottke whom had!

It's been 3 years and 2 months since Bute got his belt, not 4 years, and he's scheduled to fight 3 times this year. He also fought Andrade twice. That will be 10 fights in 4 years, that's 2 and a half per year. You say 1,5. We can see your bias again here.

He hasn't been tested at all at the elite level. I think he is bout to get beat up if he fights somebody serious.

 

What makes you think that? I'm not saying you're wrong, just wanna know where you're coming from. What have you noticed as a blatant, exploitable weakness in David's game?

 

I like the boy, but I think it's too early to say whether he really is the next big thing. He has to fight a better opponent first.
