U,all true, what you post,but--- Dempsey and Harry Wills DID sign for a fight promoted by a New Jersey man Floyd Fitzpatrick. There is indisputable proof in photos of the signing between Dempsey and Wills. As stated before the promotor could not come up with the cash, and the fight was cancelled...Why is the false statement that Dempsey always avoided Wills, when they DID SIGN once for a fight? This is called denial....Or amnesia...:good
True. Yes, the promoter never came up with the money. Also, other instances of the fight being barred by boxing commissions and local politicians before it could even be negotiated are often forgotten. People remember that the NY Boxing Commision demanded Dempsey v. Wills in the last years of Dempsey's reign, but the same authority had barred the same fight just a few years earlier.
This online stuff really screws me up, man. Some of us have 'lines' that govern what they will and will not accept in their interactions. They're hard to adjust. Anyway, I appreciate the gesture.
Let me dumb it down for you. You know who I am. I don't know who you are. If you are going to attack a man, especially the way you do, you should do it face-to-face. If not, then at least have the guts to come out of the shadows and attach your name. You responded to a discussion bodhi and I had with a comment about "fannying about." Now, I don't know what "fannying" or "ponce" means but it doesn't sound too good. Then you go and call Jack Dempsey a "****ing racist." That's an idiotic comment. I didn't call you an idiot, because I don't know you. I called the comment idiotic. To be fair, I should have used a different word or let it ride. I'll own that. However -"smug cu*t" "*****" -these are words that I would bet my house you would not say had you and I been in the same room. Before you go into some "internet tough guy" routine, stop and think about it. Unless you are some kind of sick maniac who has no perception of public manners, you would not. What I'd do to you if you did isn't the point.
I don't know who you are. I wasn't referring to you in particular, I just cut to the point, instead of all the philosophical ramblings about Dempsey being a product of his time, or whatever the point was. He did racist things in a racist time. Just because it was the standard of the day does not mean it wasn't racist.
I love the way people accuse people of being 'internet tough guys' while alluding to the fact said person would be way too scared to say the same words to their face because they're such a 'hard *******' Hypocrisy at its finest
Has nothing to do with beeing a hard *******, just with the simple fact that 99,9 percent of people don´t do this during discussions when those are face to face. Just when there are no consequences they do, that´s poor form.
