It isn't just a question of being too fast for Tyson, Ali was a better all-around fighter. Ali had great stamina, a great chin and total confidence in himself. Tyson did not have those qualities. Tyson was a dangerous offensive fighter but if he thought you had greater toughness than he did, he began to get discouraged and run out of gas and confidence.

  3. obviously i know, but i am talking about speed, only speed.

From a technical standpoint Tyson was better with fundamentals.

His chin was better than Ali's on a shot for shot basis.

Ali had the intangibles though and his mental resolve and unwavering belief in his own abilities were borderline arrogant and it has carried him in fights where he was at a technical disadvantage (against Norton) or he was helplessly behind on the cards (against Lyle).

And if they were to fight its likely Ali could get the win but I wouldn't put money on it because Tyson has the style, speed, power to get the job done.

Tyson was never discouraged if he thought you were tougher than him; chances are if you fought him in his prime he likely saw you as just another victim. He would however get discouraged if you took him out of his game and he was unable land but he'd still be confident. The confidence was still there even in the Douglas fight. Look at Round 9, Tyson came out full of confidence that this is finally the moment where he ends the nightmare. Didn't turn things around but he was confident in his ability and power up until the very end.

As for the question of speed?

go to 4:05 pretty good speed if you ask me.

Now was Ali too fast for a Prime Tyson?
    No. Definitely not.

You can argue that he was faster but the thread asks if Prime Ali was too fast for Tyson and the answer is a resounding no.

GREEN WAS MUCH FASTER THAN RIBALTA..... ALI WAS MUCH FASTER THAN GREEN....

AND NOT, I CAN NOT ARGUE THAT ALI WAS FASTER THAN TYSON. ALI WAS ABSOLUTELY FASTER. I DO NOT NEED ANY ARGUMENT. AND LIKE ALWAYS MAKE EVERY TYSON FANS, YOU COMPARE THE BEST TYSON WITH A PAST PRIME ALI... ALI WAS NOT IN HIS PRIME AGAINST NORTON OR LYLE. THE TYSON FANS USUALLY SAY THE BULL**** "FRAZIER DID BEAT ALI, SO TYSON WOULD BEAT HIM AS WELL" LMAO, ALI WAS NOT IN HIS PRIME AGAINST FRAZIER. BUT THEN WHEN I SAY "BUSTER DOUGLAS DESTROYED PRIME 24 YEARS OLD TYSON,SO ALI WOULD BEAT TYSON " AND THEY ANSWER... TYSON WAS NOT IN HIS PRIME... KEVIN ROONEY,CUS DAMATO, BLABLABLA THE TYPICAL HISTORY. THE TYSON FANS CAN´T TALK ABOUT FAULTS OF PRIME ALI, SIMPLY BECAUSE PRIME ALI 64-67 DID NOT HAVE FAULTS, HE WAS A MACHINE. THEN THEY TALK ABOUT THE FAULTS OF A PAST PRIME ALI 70s TO SAY THAT TYSON WOULD BEAT HIM...

Not sure if you actually read my post but read it again. I wasn't comparing past prime Ali to Tyson. But Ali in the 70s showed his mental and intangibles more than he did in the 60s so I used those examples showing where his intangibles that were always there come into play.

By the way Ali was dropped by single left hooks against

    Banks,
    Cooper,
    Frazier,

Tyson was only dropped after sustained beatings that lasted late in the fight. Never a situation where he was dropped by a single shot. So on a shot for shot basis, Ali is more likely to hit the canvas than Tyson was if hit with a big punch.

(He was off balance against Holyfield. Not a reflection of his chin. Also I won't count the Wepner fight similar situation).

Last but not least if you feel that you don't need any argument that Ali was faster than Tyson, which is up for debate, then is this just another Anti-Tyson thread that you are making?

I wouldn't say too fast. I'd say too tough+fast+intelligent though.

Tyson has some advantages, Ali has some advantages.

Prime vs Prime is a difficult one 2 predict, hence it is the most asked boxing question on the Internet.

You cannot measure Ali's quickness against the 63' thru 67' opposition.
Because the quickest guy, Doug Jones,,,,,,,,nearly beat him.
Look at that list of 'slow pokes' he fought.

Ali wins because he's better, not faster.

Speed isn't the most important thing here. Ali's durability and physical strength is more important.

  14. again the same thing.... ali was not in his prime when he was dropped against cooper or banks, he was a green boy. and he was past his prime and 3 years retired when he faced frazier. ali in his prime faced cooper in the rematch, and ali dominated cooper without problems.. prime ali was 64-67, end of the history. prime ali never faced frazier

  15. i am not talking about who would win, the question is the speed, end of the history.
