Way too many variables to pick a winner here. The 1959 Liston was around 205 lbs. amd quicker. But Joe's 'two-fisted attack' was so smooth and effortless.
not... the best liston weighed 212 1/2 against williams in 1959... the best louis weighed 198pounds ( schmeling II).
When Sonny trained he was between 205 and 208 lbs. Those 212 to 216 lb. days are when he half-trained.
:yikes aaahhhhh shock horror!!! 14pounds?????!!!! Insurmountable!!! :yikes Nobodies beating 14 pounds!!:-(
Once Willie Reddish took over as Sonny's trainer in 1958, that hard work and learning stopped. When Monroe Harrison had him, Sonny was a top-conditioned fighting machine. Monroe and Assistant Trainer Tony Anderson wanted Sonny at 205 to 208 lbs. Willie Reddish let Sonny come in at 212+ lbs., too heavy,,,,,,,,,
The Joe Louis speed would be the difference, as well as a 'two-fisted' attack. If Sonny backed up, it would be all over.
Louis... I feel as though he could stop Sonny late but that it more then likely goes to the cards where he wins unanimous but still a close fight.. Louis has better speed and could jab with Sonny, Louis will get dazed early and possibly even floored but he will roar back (as always) and if Liston wants to bang late then it could be lights out for the Bear.. I never pick against Joe Louis #1 Heavyweight of all time!!!
Well, yeah, it was just a jab. It just happened to be probably the best heavyweight jab in boxing history.
