Well, it's not. It was 5 min rounds scored on a 10 point must system, with no knees or kicks to a grounded opponent. It had nothing that made Pride Rules what they were. He didn't say "I like Pride rules better", he said he likes to fight under them, which he hasn't.
I agree with Nick Diaz... Pride rules were the best, those rules should be brought to the UFC & guys like Shogun & Wanderlei can use their stomps (Rua is doing fine without them but Silva being a bit past his best is missing his favourite move IMO)
I think everybody would like knees and kicks on the ground, but elbows are a must and a cage is far better in every way possible for MMA. The cage is safer, stops ludicrous stalling/cheating by ducking out of the ropes, stops the fights having to be broken up in the middle of grappling exchanges, and makes for a better fight.
He has fought Japanese rules which are similiar in not having elbows. He makes a great point that creating room to strike creates space and gives more opportunity to be active as far as position and sub attempts. Thats why there is more action in Asia. You can't use the "Its not a real fight" arguement anymore either because it stopped being a street fight when the gave MMA rounds and scores and time limits. Its a sport now-a-days. I personally like the action the rules in Asia are conducive of creating. I do think they should use the cage even if it is a square cage i don't care but iam sick of dudes purposely crawling out of the ring.
So essentially you want to take away one of the more useful tools a fighter has? In what imaginary world is there any evidence that "there is more action in Asia" and is this true of strikeforce since they don't have elbows? Clownshoes.
