I have had a bit to with the A.B.L and the A.B.A, while the the A.B.A's fighters get to represent australia at commonwealth and olympic level and use the universal point scoring method, while the A.B.L use the pro method with 3 judges, both leagues have tried to come to terms for the "best" of australian boxing over the years but the A.B.A just wants the A.B.L to fold , even though the A.B.L has a fighter base just as big as the A.B.A, so really only australia is being represented by half our stock of fighters, and kids in the A.B.L arnt getting their chance to represent their country ..things need to change both in the A.B.L & the A.B.A

Its quite simple really and you have outlined this yourself in your post.

The ABA use the international computer point scoring system.
The league use a pro based system.

Why should the ABA bow to any suggestions to change the scoring system to that of the pros when its not even used at the olympics or commonwealth games? Its not really about this as its a logical decision to make any day of the week as to why you wont not toss out a system that is international recognised and used today. It would benifit no one other than those pig headed stuborn men who want to keep it in place.

The league did have its strong points a decade ago but this has long since come and gone with the passing of guys like Mick Canavan, the league will never be the same again because the guys running the show now are greedy little grubs that care not for the sport or the boys chances at representing their country, all they really care about is making their sanction fee and collecting money for registrations.

The league now care more about money than they do the boys fighting and thats the hard cold truth of the matter. ABA might not be that great either but they are a sht load better than the league atm and thats coming from a guy whos fought most of his amateur bouts in the league, ive also experianced the Canavan era and the shtstain of a man running it now with his buddie matchmaker, both as corrupt as they come.

Denis Magnay might be the only one left of the old school league blokes but even he has become corrupt. Your really going to open a can of worms with this topic i best just keep quiet unless of course you wish for more details lol?

i dont argue with the selection process or even the panell that pics that fighters for the games, but we could benfit from a bigger pool of talent, by merging or even having santioned tournments against one another you increase the talent pool which the aussies are lacking , and with more shows we keep kids in the sport and wont loose them to other sports who are tomorrows champs

no worries m8, you do have a point about the pool of fighters. I feel this is the sole reason we have never won gold.

TC Boxa you say Dennis Magnay is corrupt, what proof do you have to back up your unfounded claims.

Do you have a team of laywers to back you up.
For those wondering its Ty Cerminara saying this, he lives in Albury, hopefully he gets his cumupence legal wise before Zelky pops a cap in his azz

We've never won gold because communist countries have always dominated. No pro fighting in Cuba, the former USSR, Romania, Poland, Hungary etc has increased the depth of amateur boxing numbers. 250,000+ registered amateurs in Russia in 1980. The USA won 7?? gold in 1984, when the majority of communist countries bouycotted.

Australia will NEVER win a gold.

yeah the odds are heavily stacked against australia in most sports but still well , australia is a sporting country at heart , we are naturaly competive people , how can u say that we would not produce an olympic champion if we are only selecting from half , and we dont have the right development programs set up

I can say it, due to the FACT that none of the ******s at the AABA want to open up to the AABL. For 20 odd years, the League has attempted to become recognised as legitimate. That recognision would also highlight the inadequate handlings of the AABA as being factual. Hence the whole reason Canavan, Trotter and Kirby established the AABL.

Secondly, with the latest step from the ****s at the AIS, there's less inclination of government secured input- either financial, or pro-active.

From all reports, the AIS was a ****ing waste of time anyway.

Pig headedness, free trips O/S and ego's are continuing to **** up OUR amateur boxing. With every fresh face to join either faction, there's an immediate inbred hatred of the other. This has not changed.

The proof i would have is first hand dealings with Dennis first hand. He has allowed a person i wont name to run a monoploy with the league here in Albury, no one can put on a league show without going through this un-named person that Dennis has given the rubber stamp to exclusively hold events here. Even if you still want the league, unsaid person MUST be involved and MUST get a cut, this is Dennis Magnay rubber stamp policy and is FACT.

secondly, Dennis allows unsaid person to pull in locals as referees and judges, this way unsaid person just has to pay Dennis the under table fee. Much cheaper than getting all officals involved and Dennis gets to pocket some quick cash.

It doesnt stop there, Dennis will look the other way at a weigh in. My fighters opponent NEVER turned up to the weigh in, i should know as i waited around for 2 hrs and he didnt show, we then got told he come early and weigh in, problem is my mother is president of the indoor netball stadium that hosted the show and was present the entire time, the opponent was a well known sports identity in albury and former rugby player, he NEVER showed up for weigh in.

My fighters opponent was the promoter of this event, we never knew about the matchup until we saw his name printed on the poster, 4 weeks out of the show. Pride got the better of my boy and he insisted on fighting, to trip him up some more as they knew he hadnt been training long for this fight they had an aborignal guy whos been in a bit of trouble around town doing the stop watch, im not sure if he knew what he was doing but by the looks of my stop watch at the time he did not.

2.30 into the 1st round and i am tapped on the shoulder by one of the seconds helping me whos holding my stop watch, i take one with me into every corner to ensure the duration of the rounds are correct. This would be the first occasion that taking the stop watch actually helped realise what was going on, a clear cut SET UP.

The fight was scheduel for 2 min rounds, and was for some title, god knows how you can fight for a title in only your first amateur fight but i guess Dennis rubber stamped this one also, it was to be over 4 rounds.

At the 3 min mark i yelled to the refee that it was past 2 min and now into the 3 min mark, this wasnt a 3 min round bout, he told me to be quiet. The referee also knew my fighter and is a local who was training at the opponents gym at the time, we didnt know this until after the bout.

One of the judges was training at the opponents gym and i did protest this at the weigh in, i ended up slapping the guy in the face after he called me out infront of everyone at the weigh in, he said i was this and that so i just slapped him hard and told him in no uncertain terms that he had best wake upto himself or step outside and get his azz handed to him, i then slapped him again and that was it lol, i was then spoken to by secruity and asked to ensure no trouble would start that night.

We were given wet gloves, i also protested and dry gloves were given, we also were only given 5 min warmup and i **** you not. It was supposed to be the main event, my boy went home to sleep they then change it to the middle fight and phone me to wake him up, they claimed to change the fight because of concerns fights would break out as it turned out fights broke out anyhow because when you have unhappy fans dished up garbage and on the **** it ususally ends in them fighting each other as they leave the venue. Many fights spilt out onto the front of the stadium and inside, i left early before it all began as i was concern i would have the finger pointed in my direction and i wasnt happy with what occur on my boys fight.

so back to the fight, 3 min mark, the clock is still ticking and its coming upto 4 min, again i yell at the referee to stop the fight. I then ask the second to go check the stop watch of the time keeper and i point to the time keeper whos keeping an eye on me also going off in the corner. he comes back and says the time keepers stop watch is reading the same as ours. I then yell to Dennis Magnay and he tells me to sit down, pretty much just ignores me and does a brush off gesture with his hand.

The bell finally sounds about 4 min 20 seconds. Ive never seen any single round in an amateur bout go this long. It was quite a farce, my boy did not wish to contuine and was very upset at the duration of the rounds, it really had him unsettled and what occured prior with wet gloves, change of fight time and opponent not showing for weigh in, short prep time etc played with his head BIG time.

I think he would have had a fair go in Freds boxing tent before he would with someone whos shacked up with Dennis corrupt Magnay.

As for your other comments, ive always stood by what i say, i never try to hide who i am and i dont need lawyers to share an opnion and first hand experiances you farkn tossbag wanker you, now get your tounge back up Dennis's azz where it belongs :hi:

Hmmm, I'm with T.C. here, I fought in the league when Mick Cannavan was alive, I also trained at his gym in Ringwood occasionally. The A.B.L. was set up by good men as an alternative to Arther Tunstall's corrupt and inept running of the Association and was a genuine hot bed of talent, Leo Young Jr., Craig Trotter, Sam Soloman and Lincoln Stewart are just a few names that come to mind from the League, from that era. A few years after Mick passed away, I had a bit to do with a few fighters involved with the League, and had couple more fights in it myself and was disgusted at the slide it was on and am disgusted t what it has degenerated to.

The same man that was responsible for the start of this slide in Victoria back then was also responsible for the decline of the Ringwood boxing gym, Mick's legacy and a gym of quite some history.
