There were a lot of real G's back then. They were the young black youth of the 70s 80s and early 90s where most of them had no choice but to be in gangs and deal drugs. There were no social programs, there were no good places to get education, there were no jobs. You had to survive in the streets. My uncles were from this era. They laugh at the punk kids today thinking they're thug because it's the cool thing to do according to the rap videos.

My neighborhood has a real estate average of 600k and I still see white, black, spanish kids trying to be gangster acting like lil wayne with skinny jeans hanging half off their asses. Seriously, kid? Your parents each make 100k+ a year and live in a 5 bedroom house. Why don't you stop acting like a punk and take advantage of the opportunity that your parents dreamed of having.
