I wonder how out of shape he gets between camps? If he goes into camp at 190 I think its probably a lifestyle thing at least partly. He not Ricky Hatton in that way obviously, but if it isn't and he really can't make 160 I think he needs to retire. He can't beat the top fighters at 168/75. Kelly should never have left 160 imo
from what i've been told, he gets to 165-166ish and is strong and healthy. its the last 5 lbs that he cannot drop. he had a nutritionist during the martinez camp and the weight was coming off as planned but they just couldnt get the last five lbs off (didnt help that he went to rehab during the camp but that's another topic). this is why the vera fight was slated for 164. the idea was see what were like at 164 and if we can get to 160 then fine. we'll see what he looks like at 168.
Good for Pavlik. Hope he stays sober. On another note we now have Bute's 3 fight schedule on Showtime ready. 1: Magee 2: Mendy 3: Pavlik All face first brawlers tailor made to make Bute look like a p4p'er.
I hope hes cleaned himself up, his daughter and his family needs him more than the boxing world does. And if he truly stays clean to support his family, I wish him the very best in his future endeavours in the boxing game.
Pavlik is a millionaire. He made a lot from the Taylor fights and the few after that. Don't forget he was the next big thing in boxing for a while. If hes fighting on its for achievement.
I can honestly say I was happy for Pavlik when he burst upon the scene, I even had major money on him beating Miranda when they fought. What I most liked about the man was his honesty, he was just himself... a true character. I just wish he'd have given himself that chance at a clean and healthy career throughout, I do not know if he's capable of capturing a belt at 168lbs or 175lbs. Should he look to fight someone of notice in the immediate future he needs to pinch on Arthur Abraham.
I agree with you, was (am?) a big fan of his, I just think its more a style thing him struggling at higher weights. I hate how everyone wants to be a multi-weight fighter these days. Middleweights a marque division, owning that is way better than winning a trinket at 168 anyway. btw Wlad looks f'king alpha in that pic
The idea that Pavlik needs a new trainer has more to do with developing better skills, not just with advice during the fight. Besides, what instructions did Loew have during the Hokpins debacle? Double up on the jab? That would have changed the fight? Pavlik is very good at what he does, but that works only against certain opponents at the elite level. If he wants to reign at MW again, he would have to increase his arsenal, how would Loew be able to do that?
You're very correct, sir. He had the future paved out for him at middleweight, and picking Bernard at 170lbs over Abraham at 160lbs was a nail in the casket for Pavlik, I truly believe that Pavlik - Abraham had the mega-fight thing brewing for a good year or so. It was up there in hype, similar to what Wlad-Haye is today.
No he isn't you moron. Go watch his fights. I assume you've only watched one, given your location. Well I watched the Larsen and Froch fights (Froch partially). I'll check out your vids though so thanks for that. No need for namecalling.
needs to change trainer or he going to get sparked out again. I like Kelly but he is not a AAA class fighter. At 168 most of the bigh boys will destroy him and at 160 Martinez will beat him harder than before.
