Round 2

Lugo hooks a low right in front of Gomez. Lugo dances around and is backed into a corner where Gomez briefly explodes with hand speed but Lugo squirms by him. They measure each other up in the middle of the ring and Lugo lands a hook to the body but is rocked by an overhand right a moment later. Gomez lands another lead right and Lugo is spinning around the ring as Gomez rushes in for the kill and gets grabbed. The momentum has them twirling around until Lugo is dumped on his butt. Gomez holds Lugo off with his jab and sets him up for high-rising rockets with the right hand. Gomez is really trying to set up a right hand KO punch, holding his left arm out stiff and pounding the air with his right but seeing Lugo jerk away at the last second every time.

Round 3

Gomez punches through a hooking storm by Lugo, who's trying to hide out in a corner. Gomez keeps his punches straight, hard and compact as he tries to smash his way inside. Lugo sidesteps him and whacks him hard in the back of the head with both hands. Pat Russell calls for a break in the action but does not issue a warning for the rabbit punching. They clinch and Gomez works his free right hand, bouncing Lugo's head a little with short palm taps. Lugo throws a right to the body and leans forward into a Gomez uppercut that just glances. Lugo is sent flying down onto the seat of his pants and skidding under the bottom rope by a quick left hook to the chin on the inside!! Big time power from Gomez! Lugo tries to fight punch for punch with him and walks into a flush right hand that has him wobbling all over the place. He is saved by the bell.

Round 4

Lugo is taking wide steps around Gomez and trying to catch him blind with a hook but isn't quick enough. Gomez is hooking him right back and eventually catches him perfectly flush and sends him hurling into the turnbuckle. Lugo appears to be cut, maybe under his left eye. Gomez blocks Lugo jabs by pushing out his forearms as he presses forward patiently and rips Lugo with power punches, including some especially brutal left hooks to the face. Lugo pulls straight back from a reaching Gomez hook that barely misses clipping him on the chin. Lugo misses an overhand right and runs into Gomez, who spins him to the ropes and tries to clobber him back with a counter. They trade into another clinch before the bell.

Scrappy round. Lugo doesn't want to get with the program.

40-35 Gomez

 

Round 5

Gomez's pressure is too much this round as Lugo runs from one corner to the next trying to shell up and avoid punishment. Gomez keeps raining punches down on him and then bulling his way inside to rough Lugo up when he plays hedgehog. Lugo walks into a right hand whlie gambling with a lurching lead uppercut. Lugo feints his way forward, with Gomez casually backing up a bit to recharge. Gomez whips Lugo's head back with a jab. Gomez whips Lugo's head back with a lead right hand. Gomez rushes in, grabs Lugo, smacks him on the top of the head and releases him dismissively like a fish too small for the tackle box. Left hook/right hand combo for Gomez stuns Lugo at the bell.

Frankie really ought to end this.

 

Round 6

Gomez hurts Lugo with a right hand. Gomez then waits a few moments before savaging him again with a long sequence of fast punches as Lugo staggers to the ropes and labors to hug Gomez. Lugo is hooking his arms under Gomez's at every turn now. Gomez is bashing his face in with stiff jabs on the way in to every clinch. Lugo hangs outside now and flicks out a jab-fake. Gomez watches. Gomez comes forward with both hands moving and winds up boxing Lugo's ears in as the latter tries to lean forward into a clinch. Gomez is slapping with powerful shots left and right, but Lugo is being just negative enough to last the distance.

Maybe it's good for him that his management didn't step up the opposition for him if he can't end a guy like Lugo

All three judges have it the same as me - the only way you could have it - sesenta cinquenta-tres (60 to 53) for Frankie Pit Bull Gomez.

He's talented, but I don't know about "pit bull" as a nickname when he's such a crap finisher.
