Randy Caballero vs. Manuel Ortega

Round 1

Caballero is chopping up the taller Ortega's face with quick jabs delivered as he circles and flits in and swiftly back out. It looks like man vs. boy until the feet and fists start moving. Caballero's footwork and punching are just so much quicker and more fluid. Ortega's face looks really busted up and he was not very effective getting anything off that round.

10-9 Caballero.

Ortega's cornerman full on open-hand SLAPS HIM IN THE FACE as he sits on the stool. Not a "get with it" slap - a "**** YOU, MARICON" slap. I know things are different in other cultures, but anywhere in the world that was just downright emasculating.

Round 2

Ortega follows and fires off long jabs and right hands. He walks into a short punch from Caballero and goes down to his hands and knees awkwardly before pushing himself right back up. Pat Russell applies a count as Ortega grimaces and shakes his head disapprovingly. Caballero continues to land short stinging overhand rights and left hooks on the large face of his antagonist. Ortega has Margarito defense without the Margarito offense. Caballero ducks an Ortega 1-2 and whips him to the body. Clinch, and Caballero pounds Ortega in the face with several short hooks. Ortega looks SO MAD - if he had a gun right now he'd just shoot Caballero (and probably his own chief second...and Pat Russell). Caballero dances around and makes Ortega flinch with feints.

20-17 Caballero.

 

Round 3

Ortega comes forward and hooks ineffectively as Caballero just shrinks back and snaps right back into mercurial forward motion with his own hard hooks to the face. Caballero is landing almost at will and dodging Ortega's punches like it was a pillow fight and Ortega was swinging a big couch cushion. Ortega eats a double right hand as he ducks down looking for some purchase on the body. Caballero is just worming his way inside when Ortega stomps after him, getting inside the clumsy arms of Ortega and hitting him with short upward punches up close, then shimmying easily out of the way and tagging him from mid-range on the way out.

Totally one-sided.

30-26 Caballero

 

Round 4

Ortega grabs Caballero roughly and spins, letting go and dropping him. Russell warns them to stay clean. Ortega gets inside and forces Caballero to brawl with him and actually lands a bit. Caballero grabs as Ortega leans his big body into him and both chop to the body. Caballero tries to shoeshine his way out of a corner as Ortega holds the tops of his arms. Caballero lands a short 1-2 before they come together again. Ortega is rocked backward by another quick combo. Ortega is whipping his long arms down low and spanking away at Caballero's backside. Caballero tries to push the much bigger man around the ring and pop off short straight punches to the face, to some effect. Caballero gets amped up as they slug to the bell and starts yelling to the crowd and slapping his chest, then climbs the turnbuckle as Ortega (who now wants to be friends) follows him looking for a hug.

 

This really looked like featherweight vs. welterweight...with the featherweight kicking ass.


Caballero wins a shutout UD (40-35)
