as much i love ali, he never did beat norton.(even foreman said it too). ali got several gifts against young and norton, and lyle was winning on the cards. end of the thread.
John #36,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,I was talking about the Norton vs. Ali II Fight. In California, sometimes if a fight was Draw after the scheduled rounds, they would fight one more eliminator round.
Without shitting on Dempsey, what a nonsensical statement to make. You want Ali to APOLOGISE for a win in a close fight!!!!! You say Dempsey would have did that AND offered a rematch!!!!!. Well you have just proved to me your anti-Ali agenda that you have always denied because Dempsey never fought the best guys out there the way Ali did (i apologise to any dempsey men here. I like jack but i stand by my claim). You infer that hes not 'A Man' for doing what you suggest???? Complete nonsense on your behalf and im REALLY looking forward to your attempt to get out of this WITHOUT going off on a tangent. Address your post that im quoting you on
Haha! reminds me of that story... During the Champions Forever tour, Foreman felt irritable & was telling Ali to his face "You never beat Norton in any of those fights"! Ali shrugged & leaned in and said " Yeah, well maybe that's true. But I sure did whup you George"! That's a classic boxing story! told by George Foreman in an interview.
John Maff, Those were the reports from the New York Press, primarily Dick Young of the New York Daily News, and one of the 'top' sports writers in the country. But Muhammad Ali did answer Dick Young, and the New York Media after the fight, by stating he didn't want to make a career of fighting Ken Norton, but he owed him one more fight, and would have another go at Ken. But of course, he took another avenue. All in all, it wasn't that good of a bout for the Championship,,,,,,,
Yes. Most of us realised that, John Maff seems to spend all his forum time trolling you to notice what you're talking about.
Reveals that Ali has loads more fanboys than Norton, that's all. Most of them post here too. :yep How controversial do you want it? There was a massive stench over this decision at the time. A Boxing News poll saw just 4 reporters with Ali ahead, a further NY (Post?) one at ringside one the first 13 correspondents asked all had Norton ahead, after that he stopped collating the information.
Yes, actually I am. I can't stand any cocksucking hero worship, where it plainly isn't deserved (like this fight, Young fight, Holmes fight, etc). In fact, I'd say over 80% of my posts are in direct debate with 'fanboys'. Ali just happens to have more of these saddos than most fighters, Duran has many too.
Well maybe he is nowadays but some of the 'New Orleans' fight comments in the past made my toes curl.
I never heard any story of Foreman doing that ... I read that at the shoot Frazier was drunk and was starting to get a bit too much in Ali's face after some clowning around and that first Holmes and then Foreman kind of escorted Joe back ..
Lyle was winning on the cards, simply because Ali was n't doing anything of note for the first 5 rounds or so. As soon as he upped his game, the writing was on the wall for Ron.
I'll always believe that Ali deserved the nod for the second fight. It was extremely close, but Muhammad made certain of things in the last round. Norton was unlucky in the third go.
