Interesting fight, dont want to see Degale waste half his prime fighting bums like Hatton/Calzghe did

    Far too early for...Pavlik!
He needs to be in cotton wool for a few fights after all he has been through. Right now, a slick young prospect is the last thing he needs.

hes talking crap he often talks up fights that are impossible at the actual moment but by the time it happens (if it does) degale will be ready thanks for that mystic franky i hope pavlik sorts himself out and returns to top form tho to be honest

Too soon, let's not forget that Pavlik lost to a beast and it wasn't a complete shut out either. We don't know if he's a spent force, he could well come back and wreak havoc at middleweight.

DeGale should fight John Paul Mendy next. It's a decent step up and fight that would sell given Mendy's undefeated record.

Maybe look at Magee after that. Then go for the likes of Pavlik, Miranda etc.

Why is Degale the one to prove himself?

Lets not forget that Pavlik has been awful when moving up in weight.

He didn't look that great against Taylor in their rematch which was at Super Middleweight.

And was taken to school by a Hopkins at Light Heavyweight.

Pavlik still needs to prove that he can fight fighters that are bigger and just as strong as he is.

Warren wouldnt really do this I dont think unless pavlik came in at a late stage without much preparation but at this stage of his career its the wrong fight for degale in my mind. I think Degale has the potential to be a multi weight superstar but Pavlik is not as bad as is being made out. He did push Martinez, it was a fairly competitive fight and youre not a bad fighter if you can beat the jermain taylor of that time. Mainly though hes an experienced, good 12 round fighter who I reckon would be able to handle degales bursts and stifle him enough to win. In 18 months time degale might very easily take this fight and win comfortably but he needs time to mature and develop

Lets see how de gale does vs groves.

I would have liked to see take on magee but he's got bigger fish to fry.

I say him vs groves for the british, commonwealth and vacant european titles. If he wins handily then give him pavlik. I highly doubt he would win but it tells us how good he is.

I don't know if Groves is the right measuring stick. His defense is too wide open and he's very chinny.

Thats a bad combination when going against a guy with speed and power.

Give him Allan Green or Peter Manfredo Jr.

Good fight. Hearing DeGale on ringside though, it sounds like he wants to win his Lonsdale belt outright, so i think we will see a quick succession of domestic defences and hopefully a fight like this by the end of the year.

Brilliant fight for Degale, Pavlick is a vastly overated talentless slugger with a big reputation and nothing to back it up. Perfect opponent.

Emm because Pavlik is a former world champion, the only thing Pavlik has to prove is that mentally he is back in a good place.

De Gale has just become British champion and has everything still to prove.

Correction Pavlik is a Former world champion at "Middleweight". You know, a division where he often has an advantage because of his height and reach.

James Degale is fighting at "SuperMiddleweight". A division where those advantages disappear.

Sorry but Pavlik is no Manny Pacquiao. The more weight he puts on the more awful he gets. That is a fact, until he proves otherwise.

Thats a reason this fight shouldn't get made. Pavlik needs to prove he can handle a "SuperMiddleweight". Before he steps in with one that is the caliber of James Degale.

People are going a bit overboard in relation to DeGale's dominant stoppage over Smith - who'd hardly looked stellar against Quigley and Dodson..... neither of whom are any better than decent domestic level.

The fact that he was highly ranked with the WBO is irrelevant.

Pavlik would probably destroy him if they met this year.... unless he's completely toast with the two bad defeats and booze.
