McCloskey getting this title shot is like Matthew Hatton touted as opponent for Floyd. Will be the same result as when Lockett got a gift title shot against Pavlik.
Everyone wants to see Amir Khan v Kell Brook however i dont think it will happen its too risky for Khan.
Nah, JMM would be giving away too much IMO. Khan is a big LWW. His height, reach and speed would see him through against JMM. JMM is at his upper limit at the moment as it is. A fight with Khan is not what he wants or needs at this stage of his career.
I think given the context (Khan keeping warm before the unification) McCloskey would be an acceptable fight. From a traditionalist view, McCloskey is the European Champion, unbeaten and world ranked so deserves a shot. From a talent perspective, if Khan performs well he will have too much for "Dudey", but if Khan has an off night, McCloskey is good enough and awkward enough to give Khan something to think of. It's also massively easy to market for Sky, I reckon it'll go something like this; 1. Khan (a good buy anyway) defends his "world" title in a bout in The UK. They will play hard on the fact it is his "homecoming fight" and it will probably be called something massively gay like "The King Returns". 2. McCloskey is Irish and Unbeaten. Expect Sky to remind every Sky Sports subscriber on the hour, every hour that McCloskey is Irish. Irish boxing fans will buy it anyway, but playing on the nation will get the Irish casuals in and will probably get the "fake paddies" (you know the sort - "I've got an Irish second cousin, so I'll be supporting Ireland.") buying as well. 3. Building on point 2 - expect McCloskey to be regularly described as "plucky", "jolly" and other stereotypical words used to describe the Irish.
i'd really give khan allot of credit if he chooses to fight mccloskey/matthyse/katsidis there not gimme fights by any stretch
i like mcloskey v khan its a decent fight. Not the most competitive but PM is alright, hes euro champ and unbeaten were as peterson is coming off a draw. I hate to see fighters getting a title shot off the back of a loss or a draw. It will **** the americans off as well and especially hbo, that must be worth buying it for.
The problem with boxing nowadays is that you havet o choose an opponent that is good (ranking wise) and marketable. Khan always attracts a crowd therefore immediately half the work is done in terms of promotion. McCloskey is good for UK fans although I dont think it will help Khans promotion in the U.S.A but by all a means a decent tune fight for the winner of Alexander/Bradley. I was thinking maybe a possible alternative if the McCloskey fight did not happen then maybe Joan Guzman would be good as he is a good name although he has a bad rep for not making weight. This good easily sell and everyone knows Guzman is a talented fighter but I guess just a little bit lazy. Maybe Urango would be a good alternative too as it will give a little comparison between Khan and Alexander and also provide a good durable opponent for Khan again great to keep busy for the mega fight.
I agree with all of this bar the last line about Prescott. I know this would be an easy night's work but it's worth taking the fight to avenge his only defeat. Lets face it, this is just a filler and he's not going to take another tough fight straight after a war with Maidana and with the Bradley/Alexander winner round the corner. I would prefer McCloskey (no disrespect intended in saying this wouldn't be a tough fight, I just think Khan has too much for him) but if that can't be made for whatever reason, Prescott is acceptable IMO.
