This is an interesting match-up just going by names. Two ethnic types with 4 syllables and 4 vowels in each name!

Anyway, what's the outcome here? My own analysis with both fighters being in their prime:

Both fighters approximately the same height. Oscar definitely the reach advantage. The real kicker here is the weight advantage. Ringo has 20 lbs. on Rock and that 20 isn't dead weight but rock hard muscle.

Both fighters have tough chins. Rocky never stopped and Oscar just one stoppage in his career to Ali in the 15th round of a grueling fight. Both fighters hit the deck in their careers but could take punishment well. Rocky seemed more prone to cuts and face swelling than Oscar. Oscar seemed more likely to be stunned by smart, quick boxers like Ellis, Ali and Folley than by strong punchers.

Both had very good stamina. Rocky was a gym rat and Oscar hated the gym but each proved he could fight at a strong pace over 15 rounds. Rocky was the more devastating puncher but Oscar could deliver a good punch as well.

My prediction is a tough 15 round decision win for Rocky. His greater stamina and stronger work rate should take him to victory. Possible knockdowns by either fighter could occur.

Sharp punches from technical boxers are what usually hurt and trouble Bonavena. Not going to be the case here/

That being said, Marciano has the edge in basicallly everything here. Bonavena was a good contender with very good durability and would make Rocky work but I don't see him being able to make it close.

Marciano probably outworks him to a clear decision.

I think Rex Layne , probably beats Ringo, so I have to go for Rocky ,by onesided beat down.I do think Oscar might floor Rocky, not because he was a devastating puncher ,but,[ like Marciano], his punches came from unpredictable angles.
    Rocky by dec.

Yeah, just can't see a scenario in which Bonavena would win. He's tough as nails, strong, and durable with some power but he's not going to outslug Marciano.

Bonavena-Foreman could be an interesting one though...

Marciano would win, but Bonavena could give him a tough fight and make him look bad!

totally agree so far. oscar was much like rocky in a lot of ways just a step or two below in all of them. if he could take frazier to the brink, he would be an ugly night for the rock

this would be a lousy fight, a real mauling tangle. marciano has the edge but it would not be easy.

I think Marciano would outslug Oscar in an ugly fight. Knockdowns and one throwing the other to the ground would be very likely.

These 2 would have an awesome fight in the street.

Like '2' Bulls in a China Shop.

This would have been great on 'Gillette's Friday Night at the Fights'

George Chuvalo vs Rex Layne on the undercard.

I can't imagine Bonavena ever winning this fight...So, I find it interesting to speculate, but it'd be fun as hell.

Marciano's pace too much for Oscar and Marciano had far superior power....Oscar awkward but the Rock gets to him between 9 and 15 by KO
