Khan: After I Beat Mayweather and Defend, I'll Go To 154

WBA junior welterweight champion Amir Khan is planning out the next couple of years for his boxing journey. Khan is set to return on April 16 at the MEN Arena in Manchester. Lamont Peterson and unbeaten British champion Paul McCloskey are two of the possible opponents being mentioned by Khan. After April, Khan wants to fight again in July with the winner of January's 140-pound unification between Tim Bradley and Devon Alexander. The final fight on Khan's list will take place at the end of the year or early next year, with Floyd Mayweather Jr. ..................I would then move up to 154.

 

Did he actually say this or is this one of those fabricated quotes that results in a 20 page thread cursing the guy?

 

Getting a little ahead of himself...not lacking in ambition though.

 

even if he gets spanked...at least he has the nuts to make the fights....im getting bored of all these duckers and fights not being made

 

not so fast khan first beat bradley-alexander, then a tune up at welter then floyd, then stick around a little bit longer in that division. khan isnt pacquiao who can move up so many divisions. I think he is possible to become a 4 weight division champ. picking up a paper belt at 160 and doing his best work at 147 and 154. But he needs to realize the guys at that divisions punch harder and are as big as him.
Imagine margarito,pac,cotto,paul williams getting their hands on him.
He needs to take his time instead of looking so far ahead, its good that he has ambition just hope he stays humble.

 

I give him credit,for wanting to fight the best out there,but if he moves up to the 154,he will get spanked by cotto or even martinez:...........when maidana was putting the pressure on him and landing shots,he had a hard time dealing with it,what would a heavy handed cotto would do to that body...............i could see him getting on his bicycle:.............win or lose i give him respect cause he's willing to fight the best and not side-stepped opponent like gayweather!!!!!

There's no doubt that Kahn is destined for the 154 division. Even at 147, he'd still big for the division. But it's getting a little ahead of himself for Kahn to think about it. He barely beat Maidana. He's still got some learning to do before talking up the Mayweathers of the world. Though I'd take him against either Bradley or Devon, on the basis that... they're just too small to make an impact on Kahn.

And all this talk about Pacquiao and a fantasy matchup, at this point of their respective careers, I'd be very surprised if Kahn lasted the distance against Pacquiao, as his defense is not up to par yet.

 

so he wants his first fight in welter against mayweather, its your funeral. I would like to see him move up take a tune up and then maybe Berto, if he beats berto fine call out whoever.

 

If Mayweather does decide to grace the sport with his prescence ever again, Khan'll be incredibly lucky to get a look in.

 

Floyd is not really someone who retires his opponents. There will be no funeral for Amir. The worst that can happen to him is to lose by decision to Floyd.

 

He's beginning to sound like Haye with this retirement talk. And these plans of immediately facing Mayweather at 147 are stupid. Is he forgetting what happened the last time he tried rushing himself? At the moment, there are way too many holes in his game for him to be the fighter he thinks he's going to be in 12-15 months time. Unless we see improvements in certain areas - mainly defensive - I don't think he should even be considering Mayweather.

But I guess credit should be given for showing balls. Being an up and coming cashcow himself, he doesn't need to take on a fight with Mayweather so soon. A fight which could give him a harsh dose of reality. Ask his pal, Ricky Hatton, what happened when got in the ring with May.

 

the boy is making the same old mistakes again. to quote khan before the presscot fight he said he would be 'untouchable in 12 months'. now he is coming out with all this rubbish again, some of my mates are the biggest khan fans you can get and they admit that he can never beat mayweather, they are leagues apart at the moment. also with khan one punch which he has always struggled against is the straight/over hand right, from the start of his career he has been caught clean by almost every fighter he fights with it. he needs to sought that weakness out because bradleys best punch is the over hand right, and mayweather is the master of the straight right.
