Which fighters have benefitted the most from bad decisions?

Sven Ottke is a obvious one, although it's not like he's made much of an impression on the sports history.

I'll have a think about some better ones.

 

Seems like Ali and Holmes got the benefit of a few close ones....

 

Pone Kingpetch would be a Mitsunori Seki-level fighter.

 

They weren't really "bad" decisions though, aside from Ali-Norton III. Many of them were close fights with some controversy with only a round or two being the deciding factor of who won.

In response to the thread topic, De La Hoya has been in a lot of fights that a questionable decision happened in, with Oscar being on the recieving side and the losing side.

 

Paulie Ayala in a couple of instances.

 

There are also a few who thought Ali did better against Berbick than the scoring reflected, while Larry got the short end of the stick in the rematch with Michael Spinks, and against Nielsen.

The Don King protected Dokes was bested in his draws against Ocasio and Weaver. (And Joey Curtis made another kind of bad decision which brought Dokes the WBA Title.) Michael never lost a decision until the very end of his career.

 

Eubank had a ****-load of them :tong

 

Ali.
The really debatable decisions always went his way.

With guys like Holmes and DeLaHoya they at least suffered from bad ones, as well as benefitted. Even Eubank, one of the Steve Collins losses was debatable, if I remember right.

Ali only benefited - although I have seen some fanatics here claim the 1st Frazier fight, and the Berbick fight could have gone his way !

 

Ali and Kingpetch are good calls.Also Saxton though most seem to be wise to the circumstances there.Benvenuti too got a few supposed gifts in Italy, but i haven't watched most of them.

Eubank, Ottke and to a lesser extent Galindez and Lionel Rose had loads of close decisions that were often viewed controversially, though they all won most of them for me.Yuri Arbachakov too.Jermaine Taylor in recent years.

 

Eubanks is a good choice.

 

Jermain Taylor. I had him losing one and drawing one with Hopkins and losing to Winky Wright, and yet he emerged 2-0-1.

Sot Chitalada had a few controversial ones as well against Bernal and Yong-Kang Kim, though it's been ages since i watched them.
