I thought I would be the only one putting Fitch as a top 3 welter. Jon Fitch needs to befriend me on facebook, and thank me on my wall. I'm joking around, but that did surprise me a bit.
Fedor Big Nog Cro Cop Liddell Wanderlei Shogun Anderson Silva Dan Henderson Sakuraba GSP Matt Hughes Jon Fitch Penn Edgar Maynard I scored Edgar vs Maynard II, for Edgar. The 3rd and the 5th were close, but I thought Edgar definitely took the 3rd with the sub attempt toward the end.
HW ; Fedor Big Nog Velasquez LHW ; Shogun Rampage Wanderlei MW ; Silva Franklin Henderson WW ; St Pierre Hughes Fitch LW ; Penn Gomi Edgar
This has to be the biggest load of ****in putrid drivvel ive seen on here in a very very very long time !!!!!!
My list of top three atg lightweights are: Penn Gomi Aoki Just as prizefight! says: Gomi I think has a stronger resume than penn. aoki has an amazing resume, but I think Aoki and gomi would be beaten by penn clearly so I pick Penn as the #1 lightweight. Penn just has all around better skills but Gomi and Aoki are so far underrated by people on this site it is a travesty.
no. gomi can be submitted especially when he has gassed but to say his grappling is **** is going way to far. Completely agree. I would say Chuck Wandy Shogun (I bet shogun will surpass both in a short time) I just dont think shogun is #1 yet to list chuck liddell on their is like listing julio cesar chavez on De la hoyas record its a great name but we know chuck was far past it when they fought. however I think shogun would beat chuck liddell even back in liddells best years too bad we can never know for sure. Might as well take Nakumara off the list and while your at it take Diabiate as well victories over them are not much in the way of accomplishments. Still a very good resume but I think It is lacking by a small margin IMHO. But really, LHW is a tough nut to crack, and many here that would agree with you. I think those three fighters are at the top however the order may be different from depending on viewpoint but wandy, shogun, and liddell are solid top 3. Ps. a victory over machida is definitely worthwhile but does anyone question if machida just needed to be figured out stylisticly and then he was far less threatening. I hate to be one of those guys but I remember watching the Tito Ortiz vs Machida fight and Tito threw a double left hook the first missed but the second caught Machida squarely on the jaw and I thought: Machida just moves away with his hands down a lot he can be caught up with if he is not fast enough. In the second Shogun fight, it really caught up to him, well in the first Machida/Shogun match as well for that matter. Im not saying Machida is not a very good fighter I just wonder if he is as good as he looked at times... I guess we will find out in time.
I'll add the caveat to my orignainl post if he can stay injury free. These knee problems are quite worrying, but he's done enough to warrant the number 3 place a it stands imo
Shogun KOing Machida in the second fight was IMHO a direct result of the first fight. Machida knew that Shogun could neutralise his typical counter game with low kicks so became more aggresive than normal and got countered himself. Rampage really didnt have him "figured out" at all, he won a clearly incorrect/bias decision(just like Shogun/Machida 1) in which he landed next to nothing then was almost finished. I'd say its very likely that Diabiate would have beaten Chuck at any point in his career, not an elite LHW but an example of him taking on multiple different styles. Nak was I'd say a better fighter than Tito by the second time he faced Chuck, granted he's on the decline now but back in the day he gave many elite fighters testing matches. If your going to be that harsh then who did Chuck really beat that matches up to todays highest standards? only Randy for me and perhaps Overeem although I don't think he was as good in 2003 as the version Shogun faced a couple of years latter. As I said I think Chuck's sucess was rather too manifactured to be considered the best LHW, the UFC fed him nothing bur grapplers who he'd already beaten as champ. The fact he lost to Rampage, had his run as champ then lost to him again says to me that he was never capable of beating Jackson and not being able to beat an opponant at any point in your career is clearly a massive black mark agenst any potential GOAT. Add to that just how quickly Chuck fell following the loss to Jackson, granted age and punishment might have caught up with him in the end but it didnt look to have vs Jardine and Rashad. Wanderlei had all those matches agenst mid/low level Japanese fighters(not including Saku who was certainly a legit LHW in 2000/01) but I don't think he was protected to nearly the same degree as Chuck, he fought a wider range of styles including HW strikers(took CC to a draw, arguebley beat Hunt). The second Crocop fight obviously had a massive effect on his career, the Wanderlei we saw vs Hendo and Chuck was clearly nothing like the one we'd seen previously with the aggresion beaten out of him.
You **** wits who only think Pride and Dan Severn running around in leotards is all that matters to MMA , the sport in real terms is less than 10 years old !!!!!!! What Velasquez has already done in the sport of MMA has surpassed modern highly ranked fighters such as Cro Cop , Arlovski , Barnett , Couture and the likes He stands alone in the being " THE BIGGEST IMPACT " the HW division has ever seen in shorter terms , it is not even questionable right now that Cain Velasquez has without doubt made the biggest impact any HW fighter has ever done in the sport of MMA and he's still a baby in the sport !!!! Get the **** over the fact that Pride is gone , its gone fella's , and yes your superstars who were all pumped full of gear and beating up nobody's in ****in ludracus mismatches were very very much overrated :deal
Gomi has a stronger resume than Penn , go ****in jump off the end of a cliff !!!!! Big man Penn beat Gomi after 5 pro fights when it was widely beleived Gomi was the best LW in the world :deal By beating a who's of who of nobody's does not warrant a high ranking all time status over fighters like Edgar , who in his short career has beaten Penn twice and a who's who of modern top level fighters , Gomi and Aoki's level of opposition just doesnt compare , when people look at the sport they look at the older fighters and just put them straight on a pedestal EXAMPLE Ive seen Jens Pulver's name on a few people's AT LW lists , WTF is that about !!!! ahead of his time yes but ATG not in todays standards **** no !!!!! People fail to realise that the level these guys are operating at now surpasses the old levels of the sport by ten fold , it has evolved and these fighters now are operating at a much much higher level than say for example even the 2005 Pride glory days !!!!
You are truly the king of ****wits :deal What has Cain achieved that the others you mentioned have not? Im genuinely interested to know, cause I must have missed them
