given the format of Prizefighter does anyone think that Jones could be successful?

Given that fighters will come out hell for leather against him, and Jones not having the reflexes and leg movement that he use to have it may not turn out pretty.

Hopkins has hardly taken a clean punch in his entire career.

There's a difference between him and the likes of Meldrick Taylor (who was already on his way by the time he fought Chavez) and Riddick Bowe.

It's not as if he's been badly banged up, ever. The Pavlik fight reminded me of an ex pro footballer taking the **** out of a Sunday Leaguer, and the 2nd half against Pascal was much the same.

Disagree Rob. Who are we to tell people when it's time to give up. They know their bodies better than anyone. I absolutely hate the guy, but I gave him his props for the Pascal fight. He proved he can still mix it with the best even at his age.

Excatly. Someone like Archie Moore was fighting in his 50s at the top level. He lived well into his 80s and was as healthy as virtually any other person of that age.

Wilfred Benitez was shot by the age of 25, and sadly at 30, could not look after himself.

The only justification for this sport in this age, is, who are you to stop someone of sound mind and judgement, who is capable of passing the relevant medicals required, to earn a living, in a legal pastime?

That means if you are 18 or 80, it does not matter. Society has for the moment decided that. It is actually illegal in this country for an employer (in the case, the BBB of C) to discriminate on age.

i would sacrifice Hopkins if it meant guys like Holyfield and Bowe were forced out of the ring. Nobody over 40 should be boxing Hopkins could beat both Klitscko's on the same night and I would feel the same way.

This is a dangerous idea. Prizefighter for journeyman is what needs to happen!

So a 39 year, who has not fought for 20 years and is in rough shape is fine, if he passes the medical?

The Peoples choice Heavyweight tournament was a huge financial disaster, and it struggled for names. Having a one night tournament, where you drag out the likes of Toney, Holyfield, Tyson etc is going to cost a fortune.

Wembley is not cheap, and publicity for a PPV is going to cost. There is no way there is any money in this. If there was, it would of been done...

Causal naive fans appreciate these Prizefighter things. Anyone who knows anything about the sport, recognizes what nearly brought the sport down in the early 70s, and wants nothing to do with it, and looks down their nose at it.

Sorry Big Dunk, going to have to say you're talking bollocks here...

Hopkins just schooled The Ring Light-Heavyweight champion and got robbed, would easily, in my opinion, win The Super Six if he had entered it and is one of the finest boxers in the planet.

It's not age that should be a barrier to someone entering into a ring but ability. Holyfield and Jones Jr are on the decline, ability wise, and are a risk to themselves, Hopkins isn't.

Rob does have a point, sort of.

B-Hop is more of the exception to the rule, than the rule itself. I don't think you can say no-one over 40 should be in a ring, because you have your Hopkins' of this world, but as a general rule - once over 40, most fighters are shot to ****.
    :!:

This should be considered on a case-by-case basis and not a hard and fast rule.
