When I fought as a punter in approx '94, the prize if you beat one of Brophy's boys was $50, apparently they allowed for two 'blue corner' victories per show. It cost nothing to fight them. They had three shows per day at the Birdsville races, full house every time, and the fighters lived in a shanty style camp at the back of the tent and lived on food cooked on the camp fire.

fred brophys boys & girls get paid $150 pre fight.if you win from the crowd you get..the way fred likes to put it.. $20 a minute=$60 for the fight.but fred tend to give a few draws lol.

ive seen some good fights in the tent..half the show is out the front when fred hits the drum, rings the bell, introduce & talks to the fighters.one funny man that dosent let the truth get in the way of a good story.

the mohegan is a ladys man but carnt fight for ****.

hi all, yes i have fought for Fred Brophy a few times and been training out of Blair 'Cowboy" Wilsons gym in Emerald QLD. i have been living in QLD for nearly a year now and just had some fights in the tent for a bit of fun, nothing serious. I move home to Cessnock in April
    cheers

Pissed myself watching this one, thanks for the heads up Ben.

Was this the guys gym you trained at in QLD..

    Blair "Cowboy" Wilsonwon won 2 (KO 0) + lost 11 (KO 6) http://boxrec.com/list_bouts.php?human_id=58582&cat=boxer

300+ tent fights and never been beaten? i can see why m8, its pretty easy fighting drunks and blokes who have never laced up a glove before. I think pro boxers should stick to figthing in the pro shows and leave these circus acts upto the clowns like cowboy Wilson.

    Harsh critisism TC.

Have you read the book titled 'Tent Boxing' by Wayne McLennan?

Did you see part I of this show?

Are you not familiar with the great Aussie institution that tent boxing is mate? It's a huge part of our proud bloody history FFS!

    ty,
i pretty much thought that the tent would be a walkover ( fighting drunks etc) when i first went in it but got a bit of a shock when i saw it for the first time. i have seen some tough guys out here in Central QLD beat Brophys boxers at times so no its not all one sided as you would think. Tent Boxing has a big history in Australia and some of our best have fought in the tent, Charkey Ramon, Tony Mundine just to name a couple. Blair Wilson has had over 500 fights in the tent and never been beaten, he didnt have the greatest pro carreer ( but least he turned pro:yep) and made his name fighting in the tent. he has a win over Jamie Guy in the tent and that was when Jamie was the current Australian Light heavyweight Champion. hey Ty, i tell you what, why dont you come up here and have a fight for Brophy, i could organize it for you, theres no weight divisions so you wouldnt have to worry bout losing weight and you dont have to worry bout the politics of the pro ranks that keep stopping you from turning pro, its just turn up and fight, have a couple of beers and go home. only 3 x 1 minute rounds so someone of your calibre would even have to train! let me know , you will love it
    Ben
