And given how many hand problems he had - How do you think he would have fared in Ray Robinson's era - Which is the title of this thread and the subject at hand?

If he cracks the top 80 in future magazines for the greatest fighters you should be surprised.

His legacy will be he beat corrales when corrales was undefeated and he drew 2.4 on the B-side of an Oscar DLH fight.

Floyd aint my favorite fighter, Pernell Whitaker is and this is a thread to debate like the old days (pre 2008) not to express our hate for a fighter that accomplished more in the squared-circle then you can ever dream of

 

He never dominated in his own era. You need to get real here dude. He retired when the best guys in his division were fighting each other.

Floyd had 10 fights in his first 11 months of his career
Then he had 7 fights in 1998 including winning the title, so I think so of you guys are underestimating Floyd.

Plus you guys act like SRR fought legendary fighters 10 times a year. He fought plenty of HOF, but he also fought some part time boxers and some bums

Remember being a little kid and hearing other kids talk about their favorite wrestlers? Floyd Mayweather Jr. is a wrestling character in the boxing sport.

His whole persona is being a cocky undefeated rich *******. It makes him rich. If that stands a possibility of ruining his Person($$$) then we won't do it because he does not want to end boxing with a loss in his record.

He has all of his life to live as the undefeated boxer who said he was better than SRR and Ali without actually having to go prove it because his audience base is a bunch of WWE type little kid fans.

 

And he got a gift vs the first southpaw he fought on espn friday night fights.

skillwise i rate him top 10-5


and Miguel Cotto sure is hell aint no ATG he aint even first ballot HOF

OK - So Floyd goes back to the 40's with his hand problems, there's no xylocaine, there's no hiding behind the business, you gotta fight to make a living.

The difference in era's is best explained in Mike Silver's "The Arc of Boxing" - I highly recommend you read this book for some perspective as it answers a lot of the questions raised in the thread.

Simply saying that he would do well presumes a lot from an era that was far more demanding on fighters. To suggest that fighters didn't prepare back in that period ignores the fact that Max Schmelling worked out the blueprint for taking on Joe Louis in their first fight 4 years before Sugar turned pro watching fight films in Germany.
