Matthew Macklin v Winky Wright - Las Vegas, April 9

Macklin in Las Vegas on a big card - that'll do for me. I reckon he'll rise to this one. Wright's style could give him nightmares but this is Macklin's shot. I'll tip him to win on points.

 

He's not slipping, he's the same as he ever was. He beat a very good European fighter in Asikainen, and impressively beat Elcock, who was one of Anrahams worst defences.

Enough to make him 'World class?' No, and that's why Barker is a more intelligent fight for Macklin, it's about levels. Winky might well get him more exposure, it could also kill his ambitions stone dead.

Risk is good, but not when you are not that good. This is too big a jump, inactive and ageing he may well be but Winky has always been an economical fighter. He'll know enough to nullify Macklin and beat him in a dull, one-sided fight.

 

Agree with most of that but I still think he is on the slope. Plus I really really really want to see Barker Macklin!!!

Would be a much more intriguing and competitive fight IMO. Macklin late stoppage. Though if Barker outpointed him I wouldn't be totally surprised, Macklin has looked average last two fights but Barker looked open last time out against a bog-standard fighter and has been inactive through injury, Hennessy being **** etc etc

Get it on. I would love to see Macklin fight Winky and give it a good go, but Macklin-Barker should be made now while it's still hot. A morale-boosting win for Macklin against a fairly classy Euro-level fighter would see him go into a Winky fight far better prepared IMO.

If Barker were to win that it probably won't be as in soul destroying fashion as Wright would do it, that'd probably be a good thing too.

 

I really am pretty confident that Darren would win, I cant really give too many reasons why except that I think he is the better boxer pure and simply.

I'm going for Winky on points. Don't see Macklin stopping him or outboxing him. Like TFFP said, Williams won cos he kept busy. Winky was having shots coming his way for every minute of every round. Winky-Macklin isn't going to be like that.

 

Fairplay if Macklin win but I think he is going to get beat.

 

hennessey won the bid. warren won't let him have the satisfaction of hosting the fight. thus he tells macklin he'll get him a fight on the world level if he forgets barker. just like last time, macklin will do it. what better than an elite fighter coming off of 2 losses and not having fought in 2 years. Winky is 40 this year too. it's a name fight without on the world stage but without the risk of a young elite fighter.

much like he wanted a fresh off of rehab pavlik for degale. good ol' fwank. still, i'd prefer these sort of fights than the afro/euro bums who he continously feeds his fighters. guys who are often too small.

 

Why does he need to boost his profile in the states? What does it matter. His last two fights have been infront of 12,000+ one was the main event in his hometown. Barker is top 15 with the WBC, IBF and WBO.

 

He's got no profile in Birmingham, Rob. Frankie Gavin is more well known than him here, I reckon.

 

Its nothing to do with Warren. Mackin is GBP fighter now.

Win lose or draw its not going to be an entertaining spectacle imo and i agree im not sure what a win over Winky would prove if he were to pull it off
