Strangely enough Martinez was awarded the WBC's fighter of the year at the Night of Champions in August.

Zbik has been interim champion since July 2009 and was prepared to fight Martinez. When Martinez won the title against Pavlik he was told he would have to defend the title against Zbik. Martinez and his team new in April if they didn't defend against Zbik within a year they would be stripped. The new after Williams 2 if they did not defend against Zbik he would be stripped.

I agree that it is unfair on Martinez and he does not deserve it but if Martinez continually defends his title against opposition other than Zbik how is that fair on Zbik? Is he supposed to sit there and wait until HBO a tv company that have proven to be bias and know **** all about boxing to say he is allowed to fight Martinez despite the fact he is ranked in the top 10 by everyone at Middleweight.

Personally I think theres positives to take from this situation. Zbik can fight Chavez Jnr, Pirog can build up some defences, Geale and Golovkin can win the titles of the old germans and you have the likes of N'Jakim, Lee, Barker, Macklin, Lemiuex, Guererro coming through. These guys fighting eachother and having belts will build up there names and boost there profile and by this time next year he will have a decent challanger at Middleweight which he doesn't have.

Another positive is that it brings more significance to the lineal title that Martinez holds. He is a true Middleweight champion, ranked as champion on number 1 by every tv company, website and magazine going. As long as HBO support that and back him to defend the lineal title against top 10 Middleweights nobody is losing out apart from the WBC who will be taking there cuts from Zbiks purses which will be considerably less than Martinez.

Do you consider Zbik to be holding a world title Rob?

Now i don't even mean do you consider him THE world champion, but do you consider him to now be holding a world title.

I consider him a belt holder in the division. I don't call them world title. There is only 1 world champion at Middlewieght and thats still Martinez.

pure bull**** wtf did zbik do to deserve the fight **** all just because the wbc decided beating Domenico Spada makes him a interim champ, doesn't mean he should get a chance to fight sergio. If he really wanted the fight maybe he should fight someone with a pulse to earn it

For all his faults atleast Mayweather is going the right direction and not bothering with belts anymore. Unlike Pac who is demeaning the meaning of boxing belts even further by winning vacant titles in catchweights.

it would be great if the introduced mandatories. that would kill of the other belts.

at the moment the ring titles means as much as a fighter of the year award. prestigious but in the grand scheme of things meaningless.

So you consider it a legit belt, not an interim, even though he didn't have to fight anybody to get it upgraded?

What did he do to deserve a shot at Martinez? Besides cosy up with the WBC and fight ****ing Spada.

It's bull**** the tried to force Martinez to fight him in the first place, why not force Martinez to fight a good middleweight. HBO were right to say no to the fight. If Zibk has a problem with that, then he should fight somebody decent or maybe fight outside of Germany for once.
