If Joe Calzaghe had lost a fight, would you still consider him an ATG?

To me, he is in the ATG 100 list I don't care what anyone says.... he had skills.... footwork, speed, ring generalship... PERIOD... BUT RJJ faced arguably better competition than JC did and if people criticize RJJ's opposition than what can you really say for Calzaghe's? If Calzaghe had lost.. he would NOT be considered an ATG... HE TRULY WOULDN'T BE.. AND THAT"S THE TRUTH...

Why I don't think he is ATG (top 50 or even top 75)

    1. He was home coddled most of his career - which is not that offensive really. Most boxers when they are being developed tend to stay home. But this also includes a lot of his peak championship years. Waited too long to go overseas or at least challenge some one of note....(see 2)

    2. Mediocre competition - not his fault but that is the reality. His resume is thin and his performance versus BHop does not really bring confidence. I give him HUGE credit versus Kessler, one of the biggest win in that weight class.

    3. What is up with the paid referees? What is this 1935? I have never seen a modern fighter gets so many weird stoppages. Seriously. Not like it was even close or the referee attempts to cover it up. The very first moment of a combo slap - stop - TKO for JC.

And how the **** giving him a defeat makes him climb up in ATG ranking. I would understand if that defeat would be prime RJJ in a highly competitive match where he got chin checked but survived and lost via close UD or SD. Then I would consider moving him up

Who said Calzaghe is an ATG at 168lb? I mean true there are not a ton of great fighters at the weight, but the few that were set a standard that Joe doesn't measure up to. And I always was a big fan of Joe's.

I think most view joe as a HOF'er. One of the better super middles but I wouldn't call him an ATG super middle. Joe's competition was too mediocre for too long for him to be considered an ATG.

And when he did finally defeat other HOF'ers, they were shells of their former selves.

Hopkins great victory over Andrew Council secured his ATG status for me. 5 losses and 3 draws before he faced Hopkins.
