Technical question, how do you throw this punch, anyonne got footage of it being used? Dempsey said: "Start your shoulder whirl as if you were to shoot a medium-range left jab. No preparatory movement. Instead of
jabbing, however, snap your left forearm and fist down and your left elbow up. Your left fist snaps down with a screwing motion that causes your
striking knuckles to land properly on the target. When your fist explodes against the target, your forearm is almost parallel to the floor." Still it would be best to see it in action any film that shows the punch clearly? to me, dempseys description of the punch is not all that great...

never heard of that one. Trying to envision how that would work.:think Sounds like a lowercut instead of an uppercut? :D

my understanding is that you throw it with front of you're hand facing away from you...you turn it over...almost like a jab right as you land..thus landing with the final two knuckles.

Kid McCoy was proficient with this punch. I saw a drawing done of him (from a much earlier source) in an old boxing mag where he demonstrated the punch.

Dunno...about a corkscrew punch. But will say that Hagler was very good at twisting his right jab on impact...Pretty good at tearing your face up. Arguello could twist his left jab too...

I'm pretty sure his punch was just called "The Corkscrew Punch" and was in essence just a modern straight right. All it involved was turning the punch over at the point of impact, as became the normal standard for the technique afterward.

I'd never heard of the corkscrew hook prior to this. It sounds like a pretty bizarre technique.

I remember reading somewhere that Mccoy claimed to have invented the punch after watching a cat paw at something in the air, and decided to try to replicate the technique lol

So would it be the punch Lennox Lewis used to set up the right hand against Rahman in the second fight? A weird long hook thing.

    The punch was outlawed.

I thought it was when you landed a left hook and then followed it back up with and elbow to the point of the jaw. It was outlawed after Dempsey was KO d with it.
