The money was the primary issue for that fight not happening. Here, straight from the horse's mouth:

“The next fight I think is now pushing toward Maidana. And the reason for that is that we just can’t tie up the purse, and the money issues with Marquez because he’s asking for too much money, and I think that without fighting me, he’s not going to get a big pay day,” said the 23-year-old Khan (23-1, 17 knockouts), a former Olympic silver medalist.

Maybe because everyone doesn't like negotiating through the media? Just a thought...........

Yeah we don't know the figures and most of the time we never do end up knowing. Based on what we do know, it is more likely that Team Khan are greedy rather than Marquez, Maidana, Peterson, McCloskey 'overpricing' themselves. When opponent after opponent is accused of overpricing, I tend to think the accuser might be the problem. Call me insane.

 

What we do know is that McCloskey and his people have no history of making high demands and that Team Khan has a history of claiming everyone wants too much money.:deal

This homecoming fight might end up on the scrapheap like the one that was meant to happen last July.

Trust me, fight is not dead, this is merely a grandstanding statement issued to put pressure on Team Khan. Behind the scenes Matchroom are negotiating on terms and they are hopeful a deal can come together.

Lazarus.. Asif Vali is NOT good for Khan. I don't know what makes you say it. The guy is one of most unpleasant men involved in boxing management. His entire approach to everything is based upon a fantasy world that exists in his head, where money grows on trees and Khan is FMJ. He has no understanding of the boxing business, and I have lost count of the number of times people have mentioned him ****ing things up whether it be negotiating television rights or attempting to finalize a fight, all because he is genuinely a total moron, he just wants to get as much money as possible, and then when he finally realises he's wrong, it's too late... and worse of all next time he does it all over again without learning.

If Khan had someone who understood boxing, he would be just as rich if not more, he would of stayed on Sky and his career would have taken a far more acceptable route through some good British fighters.
