Distinct lack of ambition and fight shown by McCloskeys team. Love it when nobody fighters do not take the big fights because they feel undervalued and are better than they are without putting any evidence down.

Anyway best of luck to Paul...really looking forward to see him fight in a world title fight in his next fight and not against some past his sell by date euro journeyman.

I'm hearing all this "Khan's team are tight bla bla", but does anyone on hear know what the numbers were? Can we pull together some figures of Paul's past earnings? Or at least, look at the Khan's previous opponents - Malignaggi, Salita, Kotelnik etc - and see what they got from Khan?

This will allow us to determine a more accurate opinion on who's tight and who's being greedy.

No doubt Paul will earn more in his next fight than he would be accepting the pathetic offer, beating Khan, beating Khan again in a rematch and defending the title in Ireland and the USA because we all know tking a chance on thinking you could win a world title then start earning dosh is a bad thing and the Yanks hate pushing Irish fighters and throwing cash at them....I mean could you imagine how little America would care if it had a white Irish dude with serious talent as a world champ beating Brits and was ready to step up and fight Bradley and the rest?

Understandable arguements being made by everyone hear but there's something everyone is missing.. If you treat yourself with a lack of respect and agree to take fights with bad pay days then you will be treated with a lack of respect by everyone in the business. If McCloskey takes this fight on bad terms then he will get offered bad terms for all of his subsequent fights whether he win, looses or draws against Khan, word will be out that McCloskey can be bought on the cheap.

Of course this pay packet will probably be bigger than any of his previous pay days but it is a world title fight and it should be significantly bigger!!!! Not sure what his previous pay days have been but he has been the main event in the Kings Hall and sold out shows with 7,000 in attendance. The ticekts were priced at £40, £60 & £110 and they were shown live on RTE. I'm sure you can figure this out for yourself.

McCloskey is the EBU champ and former British champ and is undefeated. He's got a great following in Ireland and a decent following in Britain from his appearances over there on Sky so he is in a position to demand a decent pay day.

Pretty sure McCloskey once he won against Khan would get SIGNIFICANTLY bigger paydays than he gets now.

Maybe his team have a lack of respect for him and do not believe he can win and do not want to ruin the cash cow yet?

Dont understand the McCloskey team, granted the offer might be poor but this is a win win situation for Paul. A win would see him get bigger fights and paydays and a good performance see's him get bigger fights and paydays. Surely its better in the long run to take a hit now?

Not jumping to conclusions just yet, but I think there's a good chance this is the case. They currently have an undefeated fighter who's held in high esteem by his audience in Ireland. This can be ruined if he's made to less than ordinary by Khan. So if they're going to have their current aura tarnished, they at least want to be compensated for it.

But like many others have said - it's one heck of an opportunity. Sure the risk may be big, but the reward will be gigantic!

Don't think Khan & co will exactly be crying themselves to sleep over all this.

If Khan beats Bradley and then fights Floyd, should he accept 10% of the revenue if it equates to more than he has made in the past?

In that case Scotty - he's getting three opportunities, so yes: biggest payday, chance to beat one of the best fighters of the last decade, and even if he loses it was to one of the best fighters of the last decade.

This is a little different. Khan's not some life-taker and McCloskey's not at the end of his career or on the verge of a big fight. He can suck up a loss to a young fighter on a high as long as he's competitive. Fighting Khan can get his name out there in the US and lead to other paydays.

And if he improves in the interim, maybe a big money rematch down the line. But hey, I'm not the one getting punched in the face for money.

Well it's a business, and his livelihood, you don't take a risk with that. Even if the odds were 50-50, it'd be a hell of a thing to gamble your shot at this stage of McCloskey's career for the hope of getting better money next time round.

The opportunity here is to get a fight in a big PPV fight like this, this is what fighters work towards all their careers. You should be getting a fair reward for that, or make sure you get the best you can for it.

His team obviously had their own plans for Paul this year to get him to world level, and as stated he's already making decent numbers for his fights. Why give up the lions share in another title shot, for what could be a poor enough payday.

Of course, I'm not making any guesses or assumptions into the negotiations, or saying that the offer was bad. I just think the attitude of people who say he should take the fight regardless of what it is, because it's a good chance to win a title, is very wrong.

I think we argued about this before Rico, when the talk at the time was that Khan's team was low-balling Katsidis.

Incidentaly McCloskey's team (John Breen and Eamon Magee) have faced Khan before - Khan fought Oisin ***an just after the Prescott fight and unfortunately ***an broke his ankle.

This left a bad taste in Breen's mouth and believe me they want Khan bad. They've been calling him out for some time now, only recently he said that they had other options available for world title fights but Khan was the fight that they wanted..

The rewards outweigh the risks, 10 times over. Yes his team have plans of directing him to a world title, but...

    - How many fights will this take?
    - What if he is beaten along the way?
    - Who will that world champion be if he finally becomes a mandatory?
    - Will a win over that world champion have the same implications of a win over a hyped-up world champion like Khan?

In regards to his current numbers, what are they like in comparison to the ones he’ll likely make against Khan? If they’re marginal, then fair enough, I can understand them passing up the offer. Perhaps I should reword my words, and not suggest Paul take the offer no matter what. Because obviously if he’s getting paid peanuts, he has every right to say no. But like I’ve said in other threads, we can’t determine whether he’s getting paid peanuts or not because we have no figures to analyse and compare. But what we do have, is a good idea of what the implications are should Paul pull off a massive upset. He’d have endless opportunities before him, and unlike a Breidis Prescott, he’ll be taking full advantage of them.

Yes I remember the discussion we had regarding Katsidis. Although I think his situation was different. His other option was a title shot at a Juan Manuel Marquez. Paul doesn’t really have anything like that.
